How long is your commute?

Hello all! I am just curious as to how far you guys commute to your jobs. I am a new grad and I am trying to determine how far is "too far" as I continue my job search.

Specializes in ICU, Geriatrics, Float Pool.

10 minutes (and it would be less without traffic lights), I live a couple streets away from the hospital I work in. In the past, I've driven over an hour each way to get to work. I have to say, this non-commute has done wonders for my quality of life on the days I work.

Specializes in Critical Care, Med-Surg.

9 miles, and it takes me about 12 minutes.

Specializes in Pharmaceutical Research, Operating Room.

First hospital job was 35ish minutes away. New job in pharmaceutical research is 10 minutes from the house. Love it!

Specializes in ED, School Nurse.

My commute is 7 minutes. Longer if I i have to stop at the 2 traffic lights. Sometimes there's a train, that slows me down too.

Since I have been a nurse, my commute has been 25 minutes one way, then 10 minutes one way, now 7 minutes.

I used to live in NH and work in Boston. A 40 minute drive on a good day, could take up to 2.5 hours during rush hour. That was rough.

Specializes in public health, women's health, reproductive health.

My commute is 20 minutes. After a 12 + hour night shift, it sometimes feels like forever. But I know I would be willing to drive farther if opportunity called.

Specializes in CVICU.

I live about 3 minutes away from my hospital. (driving)

I predict I can walk there in about 8 minutes. I haven't done so yet, but when winter hits and roads get icy I probably will.

My commute is about 20-30 minutes away. Not bad. It's a luxury. I'm looking to leave very soon and am hoping that I don't end up an hour away, winter is coming and I'm not a fan of driving hours in the snow.

Specializes in Home Care Mgmt, Med-Surg.

Three miles, 11 minutes driving, 7 minutes parking lot to unit. It's awesome. My previous commute was about 50 minutes in rush hour traffic. Due to the inability of people being able to drive in this area, getting home was even more several days a week d/t accidents.

I also did 150-300 miles a week on the job (home visits). I am so psyched to not be living in my car anymore! My car is happy too (and much cleaner). I would not do more than a 45 minute drive unless it was absolutely necessary. I have begun to hate driving. My decompression time comes when I get home, change clothes, pet my babies, and play video games (with other nurses ). Sometimes a beer too...

Specializes in Cardiac Step-down, NICU.

Mine is 60 minutes. I've found that it is too far for me, especially after working a stretch of 12's on nights and even worse on days when I get mandated for a 16!

Specializes in Critical care.

Starting a new position that is about an hour away and I have the option to take the train if I really need to. I'm just hoping the winter isn't bad :nailbiting:

1 hour each way..bay area traffic :Evil-Pumpkin:

About 8 minutes or so...
