How long is your commute?

Hello all! I am just curious as to how far you guys commute to your jobs. I am a new grad and I am trying to determine how far is "too far" as I continue my job search.

3 miles ! Takes me 5-10 minutes to and from work no matter the weather. THis has been my situation for 8 years. I can not bear the idea of commuting again.

15-25 minutes, depending on traffic/whether there's an inevitable accident on the expressway or not.

Before I moved: 45 minutes to 3 hours, depending on whether or not the idiots were out having accidents on the only bridge over the river.

After I moved: 10 minutes from about 10pm to 6am, 20 min from 6am to 10pm.

5 minutes....I love it. I have previously commuted 45-90 minutes one way for other jobs in the past.

I do miss the decompression time I had with longer commutes.

I live 6 miles outside of a small town. It takes about 15 min. from my door to work. There is never traffic and only 1 stop light. Only thing that makes it longer would be blizzards and icy roads.

1.5 hours each way on the train (which is less stressful than driving IMO). It is my dream job and I live in a very competitive market! That said, I am looking to moving closer and buying a car next year. So far it is rough but worth it!

I absolutely hate commuting.

I walk 7 minutes to work. It's wonderful.

15 minuts for my wife and I and we work at different hospitals. We managed to find a house between both of our works. If we ever move its to be closer to hers because she hates driving in the snow. Im ok with longer.

40 minutes to 1 hour. It's hard to stay awake that long after a night shift.

Specializes in NICU.

I feel very fortunate after skimming through these posts, I live 5 miles down the same street as the hospital I work at. But I'm in a smaller city (Green Bay, well I live in a surrounding suburb and work in Green Bay), I work at one of the best hospitals in the areas and live in one of the best cities as well! I plan to start biking to work next spring, love the close proximity!!

20 minutes. All highway though, so whenever there's an accident or just horrible traffic, it can be 40+ minutes :/

My current workplace is 15 miles from my house. When taking Interstate 35, the commute is only 20 minutes during non-peak times.

However, my user name is 'TheCommuter.' I've had a handful of crazy commutes in the past few years. In 2003, when I was a 22-year-old factory worker in expensive coastal southern CA, I bought a house in an affordable city in central CA. I commuted 120 miles each way for one year before quitting the job to attend an LVN program full-time.

From September '04 to October '05, I commuted 95 miles each way on Interstate 5 to attend an LVN program five days per week.

From January '09 to March '10, I commuted 225 miles across state lines to attend an LPN-to-ASN bridge program three days per week.

Wow! I'm impressed! It's amazing what we can handle when we have a goal in mind. I did some similar stuff (though no where close to you) when trying to get all my pre-reqs and stay on schedule to start the nursing program after switching into the nsg. program the summer between my sophomore and junior years. Only the potential wrath of my father if I didn't graduate college on time could give me the fuel to do that crazy sh**. Put myself in bodily harm daily along w/ the unfortunates on the road w/ my sleep deprived self. But I digress :-)

Now we know who to go to for all things commuting related, Commuter.

My commute is 30-50 mins. depending on traffic. I actually like it because it gives me time to pump myself up on the way in and decompress on the way home. The up side to having a (reasonable) commute.
