Hello all! I am just curious as to how far you guys commute to your jobs. I am a new grad and I am trying to determine how far is "too far" as I continue my job search.

I recently accepted a per diem position at a LTC facility that is 10 minutes from my house 😄 I feel super fortunate, however I am trying to find an acute care setting so I will have to suck it up and deal with driving some distance eventually.

I don't know if I can deal with 2 hours 😳

Do you think it is worth it? I found a job I would LOVE and found out that they hire new grads, but it is about 60 minutes away without traffic and that concerns me.

When taking Interstate 35, the commute is only 20 minutes during non-peak times. However, my user name is 'TheCommuter.' I've had a handful of crazy commutes in the past few years. In 2003, when I was a 22-year-old factory worker in expensive coastal southern CA, I bought a house in an affordable city in central CA. I commuted 120 miles each way for one year before quitting the job to attend an LVN program full-time.From September '04 to October '05, I commuted 95 miles each way on Interstate 5 to attend an LVN program five days per week. From January '09 to March '10, I commuted 225 miles across state lines to attend an LPN-to-ASN bridge program three days per week.

For me it's worth it because I got into the specialty I really wanted for a long time. I couldn't get into this specialty in any of the closer hospitals because of no experience in said specialty and it's so competitive here..I was not called for even one interview! It's taken me many years, so when I finally was called for an interview there and offered the job, I of course accepted and am happy to be getting my experience :) Sent from my iPhone using allnurses

We've recently relocated to a high density city from an isolated smaller city and I have to say the driving has been the biggest adjustment. I abhor it. :'(
