  1. I agree that sometimes you have to step out on faith and make a change to feel that you're truly doing the job you're meant to do, but how do you do that when some positions require certain experience although listed as preferred in the description? How do you get the experience to move forward when you aren't given a chance?
  2. Congratulations. I'm hoping to make the same transition.
  3. I too am looking to transition into CM. I'm having a hard time showcasing what I do compared to what they're looking for in those insurance CM postings. I worked beside M/S for 6 yrs and 2 yrs in Same Day Surgery. I think I may have had a better chance attempting the move right after M/S.
  4. Thanks. I'm still trying to figure out what my next position or area of nursing may be.
  5. I don't know how to tag you all. When I started nursing 8.5 yrs ago I thought I knew at the time what I wanted to pursue, but some specialties of course are difficult to get into. Even now at my current job my employer offers new grads a chance to experience so many didn't areas, I wish that was in place before. I don't believe med-surg floor nursing is it, I enjoy outpatient surgery, but I would love to reach the people before they end up in the hospital with me. I know my niche is out there. Thank you both for the encouragement.
  6. Thank you so much. I definitely have a lot of soul searching to do. I am hoping that I can truly find our what my nursing journey is truly meant to be. Wishing you all the best when you take the leap into school nursing.
  7. With only X amount of days coming up to renew my RN License some days I feel as if I don't want to. Don't know what I would wake up and do the next morning either. I've worked on a busy, understaffed med-surg floor for many years before going to ambulatory surgery for the past few years. Their both interesting and definitely different kinds of busy, but neither have quite been that place that I could call home. I would like to try something else, but not much peaks my interest. I love taking care of patients, educating them and being their advocate . After my long drawn out story, for a girl that's lost her way, any suggestions on finding my niche and how did you find yours?
  8. Tote bag. Last year we Received a plastic salad shaker type cup with an accompanying fork, cup or coffee cup year before that.
  9. Congratulations.
  10. My commute is about 20-30 minutes away. Not bad. It's a luxury. I'm looking to leave very soon and am hoping that I don't end up an hour away, winter is coming and I'm not a fan of driving hours in the snow.
  11. Give the two weeks notice. Never say never. In my state most of the larger hospitals have merged in the last few years and at my workplace there are so many people who worked with each other and for different managers at other facilities.
  12. I often hear conversations with nurses old and new discussing whether or not they would choose nursing as a career again if they had the opportunity. Some even have children in college now whom they haven't quite steered away from nursing, but strongly suggest they may want to choose an alternative career path. For me nursing wasn't my first career choice, but I'm glad I ended up here, and would definitely choose it again,
  13. I haven't worked in med-surg in a few years, but that definitely sounds right. I hated that phone at times. It made it easier for me when I had a page out for an MD, but not so great in an isolation room knee deep in C-diff poop. Who would answer in that case? Then the unit clerk would keep calling and overhead page. It I could answer, I would.
  14. I am looking to change positions and I have been at my current hospital for 8 years. Looking through some of the posted threads I see that resumes have changed with the profile and professional summaries and listing qualifications and your job duties as qualitative and quantitative. This is driving me crazy trying to figure out the best way to represent myself. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to begin? I have medical-surgical and ambulatory surgery experience.
  15. I am planning to take the ANCC Medical-Surgical Certification exam in the next few months. I am wondering which books you have used. I thought about Lippincott's Medical-surgical review book; it's like the springhouse 4th edition med-surg cert review book. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
