How far do you drive for nursing school?

Today I drove to one of my prospective nursing schools. I have applied to 5 for next year (I'm waiting to hear on all of them). I didn't realize how far away it is! I drove 2 hours. It would've only been 1 1/2 hours but there was an accident. There are accidents on that road all of the time though (hwy 285 in Ga) so I'll need to build in a cushion of 1/2 an hour every time just to be sure I make to class on time. I am really dismayed because this school is the one that I think I have the best chance of getting into. I am thinking it is just too far out of my way and if I get accepted I am not sure I can say yes to the school in return! How far do you drive?

Mine is about an hour to an hour and a half!:/

I have about a 30 minute commute. Possibly 40 minutes, depending on weather, time of day, and traffic.

I drive an hour to class

1+ hr.

I actually don't mind the drive...it is my quiet time :)

My school is about 11-12miles from my home. It is also in the same town that my kids go to school in and that my 2.5 yr old's daycare is at, so that makes it easier :)

Specializes in Neuroscience.

I live 15 minutes from my school. I got lucky.

Clinical - the farthest I've gone so far is about 25 miles one way, approx. 35-40 min

Mine is about 1.5 hours one way, depending on traffic.

i commuted 40-90 miles for ns/clinicals (1-3 hours). it is definitely doable, especially with the ability to stay with friends/relatives to reduce # of commutes.

i have one suggestion: make use of your time on the road to study!

1. get your books on tape, or get e-textbooks and have the e-book reader text->speech

2. tape lectures and replay them

3. use a laptop to text->speech notes and study guides

I always leave an hour before class, arriving at class anywhere between 10 to 15 min. early. The drive is nice and relaxing, it's back roads so once I hit the road, no traffic lights or stop signs. Like others said, nice time to wind down and think to myself.

I drive about 20 mins to 1 campus and about 30 mins to the other. 2 hours!!!! That's insanity!

I have about a 45-minute drive; I usually allow for an hour. I make use of that time listening to lectures.

25 miles, about 35-45 minutes
