How far do you drive for nursing school?

Published

Today I drove to one of my prospective nursing schools. I have applied to 5 for next year (I'm waiting to hear on all of them). I didn't realize how far away it is! I drove 2 hours. It would've only been 1 1/2 hours but there was an accident. There are accidents on that road all of the time though (hwy 285 in Ga) so I'll need to build in a cushion of 1/2 an hour every time just to be sure I make to class on time. I am really dismayed because this school is the one that I think I have the best chance of getting into. I am thinking it is just too far out of my way and if I get accepted I am not sure I can say yes to the school in return! How far do you drive?

We aren't allowed to tape lectures. Any other suggestions for studying on the road aside from buying books on cd? Is there a way to get books to play from my iPhone?

Did you see the earlier post from SummitAP...?

-1. Get your books on tape, or get e-textbooks and have the e-book reader text->speech

I live in North Ga, I drove 1.5 hrs to school also allowing 30 xtra minutes for accidents or traffic problem that I may encounter. just graduated last month. would do it again because there isnt a RN program less than 1 hr away from my home. did tape lectures and listen to them while driving helped me greatly.

I'm about 25 miles or so from school so not too bad. I couldn't imagine driving 1 to 2 hrs one way! And to think I complain if I get stuck behind a tractor for 5 miles lol

My school is less than 3 miles away which is nice :) The different hospitals I will be doing clinicals at though are farther, most about a 30 minute drive.

I drive 60 miles there and back (about 1.5 hours each way) for campus and about 50 to the clinical site (like an hour 15)

It hurts.

I have a about a 30 minute drive with traffic maybe 45 mins! I was complaining about this but after reading some of these post ...I GOT IT EASY!!!

It takes about 45 minutes for me to drive to school, but I leave an hour and a half before class starts. It takes 20-30 minutes to park and walk to class.

It takes 30-45 mins depending on traffic. What the problem is parking. We have to pay for parking so that's an additional expense.

I'm 15 miles away, but since it's through a city, it's about 35-40 minutes away. It's still half my husband's daily work commute, the other way. Only the for-profit schools are closer, and that wasn't going to happen.

There are three schools in our nursing program, and a number of clinical facilities. I currently drive 1 hour and five minutes one way to class, and 1 hour and 30 minutes one way to clinical. Class is on Monday from 1600-2100, and clinical is Saturday and Sunday from 0745-1800.

Next semester, I will (more than likely) be driving 30 minutes one way to one class, 20 minutes one way to another class, and 35 minutes one way to clinical. I will have one night shift clinical, one day shift clinical, and class two days a week from 1500-1800 (that's the schedule now, that may change). If the schedule does change, I will be making the 1 hour and 30 minute one-way drive back to my current clinical facility.

about an hour, parking is another story haha
