How far do you drive for nursing school?

Published

Today I drove to one of my prospective nursing schools. I have applied to 5 for next year (I'm waiting to hear on all of them). I didn't realize how far away it is! I drove 2 hours. It would've only been 1 1/2 hours but there was an accident. There are accidents on that road all of the time though (hwy 285 in Ga) so I'll need to build in a cushion of 1/2 an hour every time just to be sure I make to class on time. I am really dismayed because this school is the one that I think I have the best chance of getting into. I am thinking it is just too far out of my way and if I get accepted I am not sure I can say yes to the school in return! How far do you drive?

i will have to drive about 30 minutes from my house but i will also factor in another 10 minutes to find a parking spot, walk to class, etc

My school is about 70 miles away! Takes about 1 1/2 hrs by the time I get kids to where they need to be!

Not even 5 minutes. And I'm always the one who's scurrying in at 7:58 lol.

I ride my bike 10min to campus and drive 10min-45min for clinicals

There is only one school within an hour from my house so unless I go there I will have to travel regardless. I did apply to that school but unfortunately they require you get their ASN before you can apply to their BSN so it makes the program 3 yrs in length and it doesn't start until next fall. I would graduate faster going ANYWHERE else. So I get to choose b/t commuting or taking an extra year of school. I guess I will wait and see what kind of acceptances I get (hopefully get, anyway) before I make my decision. I am REALLY not excited about driving 1 1/2-2 hours in downtown traffic though when I could drive 1 1/2 hours on mostly backroads in my own "neighborhood" without traffic most of the way if I can get into my school of choice.

I live about 5-10 minutes away from campus (depending on traffic). Clinical sites vary - my current site is right across from campus and the site that I am starting at in fall is less than 5 minutes away. Work is a different story, though...it's about 45 minutes away on a GOOD day without traffic or snow!

I am 10 minutes from school.

But...I was thinking about going to a school an hour away, everyone dissuaded from doing so (I was trying to get out a year early). I thought about our crazy winters and being late!

Between an hour 15 minutes and hour and a half depending on traffic, there are some in my class that drive almost 3 hours

I commute about an hour to my nursing school, and it feels like nothing. I had to commute to my work for an hour and a half for about 2 years and at first it was really annoying to do the drive but after a while you really do get used to it. If the school that I got into turned out to be an hour longer and I had to drive 2 hours to go to nursing school, that drive wouldn't stand in my way if that was the school that I really wanted to go to. Seriously if thats the school you want to go to, don't let the drive get in your way.

I drive 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes to class depending on whether coming from work or home.

It takes about an hour by car but at times I take the bus at times and it takes approx. 2 1/2 hours by bus.

It's about a 10 minute drive to my school and my clinical site this fall is also about ten minutes away. I quite enjoy my little bubble in a huge city :)

My other school options would've taken me closer to an hour without traffic, which is kind of a non-existent thing here.
