How far do you drive for nursing school?

Today I drove to one of my prospective nursing schools. I have applied to 5 for next year (I'm waiting to hear on all of them). I didn't realize how far away it is! I drove 2 hours. It would've only been 1 1/2 hours but there was an accident. There are accidents on that road all of the time though (hwy 285 in Ga) so I'll need to build in a cushion of 1/2 an hour every time just to be sure I make to class on time. I am really dismayed because this school is the one that I think I have the best chance of getting into. I am thinking it is just too far out of my way and if I get accepted I am not sure I can say yes to the school in return! How far do you drive?

85 miles a day. Twice a week!

It takes me about 20 minutes to get to school. The drive for clinical takes me anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour depending on where I am scheduled.

45 min to hour drive to lecture.

15-30 min to hospital.

My school is an hour away. I will be driving it 4 days a week, at first, and then at the 4th week, 5 days a week. My first clinical site is over 2 hours away. It will only be 2 days a week and I have made plans to stay at another students house that is an hour closer a couple of nights a week. I figure that we can study together on the nights that I am there.

Specializes in Peds PACU & Peds Psych.

I'm about 30 minutes from my school. My clinical sites vary anywhere from a few minutes away to a couple of hours just depending on the rotation. Luckily, I only have to make the long drives occasionally. Not enough to be bothered.

I live in Texas and drive 3 hours one-way across state lines to a school in Oklahoma. The commute is 225 miles one-way (450 miles round trip).

No wonder your nickname is TheCommuter! I go to school in Oklahoma too, and I am wondering if you go to my school. If you live in N TX, close to the OK border, it is certainly possible. :)

My drive time is roughly 30 minutes in good traffic. I usually give myself an hour to get to class. I am very rarely late for class. If they don't send me out of town for clinicals, should not take me more than 1 hour to any given location.

15-30 minutes depending on traffic

45 minutes to get to my ns. There is a LPN school near my house but I wanted to go for my RN. An hour of driving is nothing if nursing is your dream... I only wish that gas prices were lower. I am thinking about trading in my SUV for a little car!

Specializes in 10.

I drive 20 minutes to school. When I was in the LPN program my drive was about 35-40 minutes

it's about 60 miles there and back. Takes me about 25 minutes to get to and from. Not bad.
