  1. Sometimes parents are selfish, hopefully without realizing it. People sometimes hesitate to appreciate something, that they have never experienced. .. If you want to be a RN - go for it, dont' let anyone say you can not or should not. Age doesn't really matter in nursing school - everyone will be working hard, studying tons..... aim to be one of the ones who graduates .... at whatever age :)
  2. Since its July, I'm assuming that you are taking Micro over the summer semester? This is an intense course.... you might have to see if you can take some vacation days, especially around finals to up your grade. If you do not do well, you can always retake during the fall semester. I took A&P 2 over the summer and it was way too fast for me ... but I got through it.. One test at a time. Good thoughts.
  3. I took 3 classes a semester. I think less classes is better, because your grades will be better. It took me a little under 2 years to finish my pre regs. I'm starting my nursing classes next month and will graduate in late 2014. However long it takes, just hang in there! Time will go by.
  4. You do have to have great immunity as a nurse. I respect that you have your values and you distrust some vaccines. However, sometimes in life... you just have to do things you don't want to, to protect others and also to get a job.
  5. you should call your school - when I was fingerprinted, I told them what school it was for and it was sent directly to that school. -- Call to make certain..
  6. When it comes to nursing classes and clinicals, the colleges set the schedule.. not you. I am unsure how long a nursing portion is for BSN but its 2 years long for ASN (At least, that's how it was at the two colleges that I applied to) I wish I could pick later clinicals - because I have clinicals starting at 7am! LOL A lot of office people do not tell students how long it will take LOL - plus you might have to wait to be accepted into nursing school as well. --- I finished my pre regs in 2 years (plus a couple extra classes that I could apply towards my BSN)... I go to a 2 year nursing school in fall 2012.. 4 years for a ASN for me... and after that, my college offers 1 or 2 classses a semester towards a BSN. - - Either BSN or ASN .. I would suggest to ANY pre nursing student to apply to more than one college. Some colleges only accept once a year and that can delay you greatly.
  7. hormones ----- aside from that, I would say diagnosis was the hardest. I took A&P 2 during the summer which was more intense.. if I could redo it, I would definately do it during a full semester. :)
  8. why was the enviroment horrible at the university? Do you want to be a nurse? If you don't, do something else. You said that you want to work at a hospital so you need to work towards getting past shyness Everyone is a scared when they start anything new.. If needed, FAKE braveness... that is being brave in itself..and eventually it will get easier. Realize that people who don't like you, really don't matter. Realize that you are worth it... :) High school is very different from college. College is really about you and about advancing towards what you want to be. Its hard work but you are capable of it, especially when you REALLY want your goal. Passion is the key. Don't let other dictate what you want to be. Your parents will be proud of you if you work hard. Even if they are not, you will be proud of yourself and so many others will end up proud of you.
  9. the past is the past. Do your pre-regs and attempt get As. When I did my pre-regs, I normally took them with less-challenging classes to make sure that I made great grades. For ex: A&P with psychology. A&P is much more intense. I think you can still get into a great program! Many programs put a high priority on pre-regs- and also some make you take an entrance exam, so you still have time to shine.
  10. 45 minutes to get to my ns. There is a LPN school near my house but I wanted to go for my RN. An hour of driving is nothing if nursing is your dream... I only wish that gas prices were lower. I am thinking about trading in my SUV for a little car!
  11. I have two children 7 and 9. I am starting nursing classes in the Fall. You can do it, you just have to make studying a priority. If I have a big exam, one of my children might miss boy scouts but its all for the better good. I can't do everything but I did get through pre-nursing classes with good grades and still spent quality time with my kids. Besides, knowing MOM is studying hard is a good example to kids. :)
  12. I went back to school as an older student. I ended up having to take learning support math, which took me a semester but I did learn a lot. However, if you can't take a learning support math, then you really have to learn on your own to pass the compass. Put the hours in and you'll do it.
  13. 7am! I am a bit concerned about this, because its an hour commute and my kids get on the school bus at 630 am. On days that I do not have clinicals, I can get them on the bus and make it to my school on time. My husband sets his own hours but is used to working at night and is NOT a morning person. He's going to have to become one though. It isn't going to be pretty! I will be firing up the expresso machine! :)
  14. I took all of my ADN pre-regs before starting nursing school. Most schools need recent A&P classes (within 5 years), so you might want to do the basic pre-reqs first like math, micro, psych etc etc. It took me two years to finish my pre-reqs at 2 to 3 classes per semester. My grant isn't as high, because I won't be taking additional classes with my nursing classes. However, I want to concentrate on my nursing classes and I have kids to think about. I'm glad that I finished my pre-regs :) Good luck! You will do great
  15. Many months have gone by, but I wanted to still give my opinion about this essay. Great job! I think there are too many adjectives. You are a good writer but sometimes shorter is better. Shorter sentences get to the point and have more impact on people. For example: I have definite plans to further my education in the future, but I know that I have so much more to learn about being a nurse before I can make any definite statements about wanting a particular degree." This sentence uses definite twice and too many words to say a simple statement.
