What specialty are you considering?
Yeah, I thought we were trained to be generalists so I didn't realize that you specialize by just choosing jobs in the field you want. That simple, huh? :w00t: Thanks!

What specialty are you considering?
When do you decide on a specialty? Is that something you decide while you are in the nursing program, and take specialized courses for it? I am currently in a 2-year ADN program, and am wondering if and when I will have to choose my specialty, which I would like to be cardiology.

Pre-reqs and working full time..
I too am working in a commissioned sales job, and also finishing up my prereqs. While the stress of having to meet a monthly quota (that often changes radically from month to month), and attending school, I changed my work status to part-time along with attending school part-time. This works for me right now and is less stressful.

Any stories/advice overcoming low undergrad gpa?
I too, am nervous about a low gpa. I made a few mistakes during my college career from when I was much younger (such as getting a D, and F in non-nursing related courses like History and pre-algebra). The math I did retake. I often wonder if this will hinder me from ever being accepted into my school's ADN program.....which I am applying to in 1year. Now, I take my studies very seriously and I am trying extremely hard to bring my gpa up from past mistakes...Has anyone ever heard of soneone getting in with 2 unsatisfactory grades??

Best study guides for pre-nursing
What are some of the study guides and/or books you recommend for studying for various pre-nursing (or nursing, for those who want to get a jump start!) classes such as, A&P, micro, HESI, etc. And how do you study? Flashcards, study-buddy, songs lol, what makes you remember the material?

Just took Hesi a2 entrance exam today
It seems the vocab is the hardest part, according to previous posters, so I will definitely get the quizlet flash cards...thanks for the info!

Being nervous about the science and math of nursing school
I worry about the same thing, but as other posters suggested already- study guides and books! There are so many you can find to help you with any math needed for nursing school. Don't stress too much; keeping a positive attitude is sometimes the only thing that keeps me on this crazy, stressful ride to nursing school. You can do it! : )

Delgado nursing grads & current students
shawn39, I couldn't send you a PM because I'm such a new member to allnurses.com. I did want to ask you about the "scoring system" on the Academic Assessment Form I found on the CSON website. I will be studying my heart out to get the best grades I possibly can, but I do have 2 not-so-great grades (D,F) from when I first attended college when I was 18, that are less than the 5 years old (I believe anything older than 5 years, they will not count?) in History and a pre-algebra course. There is a spot for CSN Academic History; does this include all required prerequisites? Or all the classes I have taken thus far? This is just consuming me lol....

I will definitely start planning for taking the HESI after A&P. I'm going to print the "scoring sheet to zee where I stand, so I can have my things together. I attend City Park...and by the way, thanks for all the info, I certainly appreciate it. It's good to speak to someone who has been through it. And good luck to you!!!

Delgado nursing grads & current students
I guess I should apply once I finish A&P I, right? I will schedule my first A&P for Spring '13. I also need to take the HESI somewhere in between....I love having things progress, it's exciting! Because every semester down means we are closer and closer!

Delgado nursing grads & current students
I am pretty new to Delgado from Nicholls State, so I had alot of useless gen.ed credits that 4 year universities make you take. Because their prereqs were so different than DCC's I am starting the bio prereq to A&P since I had no science classes yet. I already have my English and College Algebra done so I believe that is all I need to apply, right? I wasn't aware that I had to apply 1 year before..so thanks for informing me! I need all the advice I can get!Nicholls was pretty competitive as far as getting into the nursing program; they wanted the best gpa's. I had a friend who did bad in a mathclass, and by bad, I mean a C, and she was not accepted due to her grades....As I was trying to get info on the nursing program from a coworker who's friend graduated from CSON, she stated that this woman had 3 failed classes from Southeastern (the school she transferred from) and was still accepted into CSON because all of her grades from classes she took at Delgado must have been really good...

Delgado nursing grads & current students
I am actually finishing up on prereqs. Only 2 semesters left before I will be applying to Charity. Taking me longer than I imagined, because my prereqs have prereqs.... About how long did it take you to finish your prereqs? Did everything go smoothly when you applied to CSON?

best way to schedule classes to maximize degree progression
Yep, that is what it is. My prereqs have prereqs; I guess I'm just going to have to take it REAL slow.

Any advice for a student just starting the Delgado nursing experience? So, far I am not having any issues except for the fact that it seems there is never anyone to answer the phone @CP to answer your questions....frustrating!

best way to schedule classes to maximize degree progression
An example of what I am dealing with is this: I'm scheduling Algebra 101& Biol 141 (intro biology) because I cannot get into A&P I without entry level bio. That is only 2 classes for the entire semester! I have already taken Eng. 101, 102 and Psych, when I first graduated highschool and was not so serious about my studies. So now, I just am trying to make the most of each semester.
