Thanks everyone! You have all been a HUGE help! I can choose between one or the other, but I think I will meet with the financial aid personnel of the Private school and find out EXACTLY how much aid I will receive and how much I will have to take out in loans each semester. If it is do-able for the future I will probably pick the BSN. If it doesn't look affordable for my future, I will definitely be going ADN and bridging over in the future. PS - The BSN in through a private school, which is estimated to be around 21k per semester, but I would get a lot of aid, but still have to pay for some!

Hello all! :) So I'm in my first semester of my nursing pre-reqs at a local community college..and I love it. I love school, and I really enjoy learning everything and I actually find myself going ahead, because I just love doing the school work. I am 23 years old, soon to be 24..and I'm just thinking about my future, I've always thought about becoming a nurse practitioner, but now I'm thinking I missed the boat because I am already 23... By the time I am done getting my RN it will be June 2014. I then want to start the road to become a practitioner..I'm just wondering if I am being a little ridiculous. I took 5 years off of school to work full time and pay bills, etc. (I have pretty much raised myself since 16..) Going to college until I could claim independent status in NYS was my only option, and here I am in my 1st semester..(of prereqs - pulling a 4.0 by the way! YAY!) I want to know what everyone thinks..am I being a little farfetched, and I already to old to pursue this...

Hello Everyone!! I'm just wondering, trying to get some life stories and motivation! :redpinkhe I am 23 years old and have been working full time since high school at a car dealership. I make great money for my age. However nursing is something I have always been fascinated with! I've always had a keen interest in nursing and I have finally taken the steps to pursue it! I have given up my full time, well paying job to do a part time medical assistant/medical reception job, and go to school to do my nursing prereqs. People always say, "Oh you'll never be able to get through school." or "Are you sure you're doing the right thing?" "It's a lot of hard work most people can't handle it." Kind of some discouraging things coming my way. I just want to hear other peoples stories to really motivate me more than I already am! I have supported myself since I was 18 years old, and I am very responsible and mature. When I want something I will work to get it no matter what! Just sometimes when people say things like that, I guess I doubt myself, or second guess my decision. I would like to hear some peoples stories about how they overcame the negativity and pursued their nursing career. Was it the right choice? Are you satisfied and happy with the outcome? I look forward to hearing your stories!

Hello!! Has anyone ever taken the entrance exam at Erie 1 Bocces in Buffalo, NY? I am taking it this Friday and I was wondering if someone could tell me what to expect. I am 23 and have been out of high school for about 5 years now. I have been working full time since high school, but have always wanted to be a nurse! I was wondering if you have taken it, if you could let me know what to expect. I understand it is high school Math and English. However since I have been out of high school for sometime, I'm a little rusty with my math so I have been getting tutored for some refreshers. I was wondering if you were allowed to use a calculator? I'm really nervous! I do very well with English, and writing is a strong suit of mine as well. Any insight into the program would be helpful and appreciated! If you could answer some questions of mine that would be great!! 1. How was the exam? 2. Can you use a calculator? 3. How long until you find out if you passed or failed? 4. When do they do the interview? 5. What kinds of things do they ask you in the interview? 6. Even though I have no previous medical experience - will that effect me getting accepted? 7. Hello! I am from Buffalo, NY and I am considering taking the course at Erie 1 Bocces for the LPN program. I am 23 years old and have been working a full time job selling cars since high school, so clearly I do not have any medical experience. However I have always wanted to be a nurse, and I am finally taking the leap! My dilemma is that I live on my own and support myself so I pretty much can not give up my full time job. I applied to Trocaire and NCCC to do my pre-reqs for the RN associates degree program. However since I have not gone to college at all yet since high school, I would have to take a year of pre-reqs before even being considered for the Nursing Program. I found out that at Bocces you can take a 1 year program to be an LPN for $8,300. It starts in October. Although my ultimate goal is to be an RN, I don't think I can give up my full time job at the moment to go to school full time. With the Bocces program it's 4pm-10pm which is perfect since I work until 3pm at my other job. I am just wondering if it is all worth doing to become and LPN or just skip that and go right to school for my RN. Basically I am very conflicted because I have to work, there is no question, and I feel that possibloy the LPN route would better prepare me for the RN route in the future. Also I was wondering say I get my LPN, and don't have any other schooling under my belt, can I challenge the first year of RN program and just do my Gen Eds and 2nd year of the RN program? I really appreciate everyone's insight!! I'm very conflicted!!!! PS! Can anyone tell me what the test is like to get into the LPN program? I know that it is just high school math and english, which I am pretty capable of, but if anyone has any insight on the test and what it is like, I would love to hear from you! Hello! I am a 23 year old girl who has been out of high school for 5 years. In that 5 years I have been working full time just supporting myself to live. (Selling cars, so this is a complete 180..) I have decided to make a change in my life, and go to school for nursing! I have always been absolutely fascinated with the medical field, and anatomy, and the human body, and just the care an compassion for other people, etc. My grandmother was a nurse, so she is certainly happy to hear I am following in her footsteps! :) I do need to keep supporting myself for a little while to save up some money to carry me throughout nursing school. I was wondering if it is hard or realistic to still work full time just during my pre-reqs. They are just my basic math, english, psych, bio, A and P, etc. I know that I still need to work very hard and keep my grades high in order to even get into the nursing program. Compared to the actual nursing program though, I feel maybe the pre-reqs will be not as challenging. Am I being naive? My plan is to work full time throughout my pre-reqs, then cut it to part time during the actual nursing program and live off my savings and part time income. What do you all think? You're experiences and stories would be a great insight for me! :) Also one more thing: I am currently applying to volunteer at a hospital part time in order to get my foot in the door at a medical part time position. What are some positions I may be able to do while in school doing my pre-reqs for the nursing program? I want some more medical experience under my belt.. :)
