So, I'm a Nursing Student and recently in addition to my waitressing job, I started doing like camgirl stuff online. Do you think I could be fired as a RN in the future? Or it could come up in a background check and hinder my employment majorly? I've made over $400 on the camming website so I'm required to file taxes eventually and I guess I'm just scared I could lose my RN license one day. I just don't want anything to jeopardize my dream but I also would like to be able to stay in school so I can reach it. I realize now I jumped into this head first before really thinking of the consequences, but now I need to decide to continue doing it or stopping.
I guess any general advice would be wonderful to ease (or fuel) my anxiety. Thank you!
It's not an issue as long as it is not illegal in your state. If your "employer" required you to file taxes, the practice is usually illegal. Camgirl activities is not prostitution, therefore, legal in most states.
Background checks only involve criminal activity.
However, you do run the risk of someone recognizing you. Once it's on the internet, it's there forever. Please do not believe the BS that they tell you "Oh, we'll block out states where you have family". Anyone that can record off the computer can record the video and upload it anywhere.
Never put anything on the internet that you would not want your family, employer, future husband and children to see.
my name on here has no attachment to any of my camgirl stuff nor my social media. haha :) jsyk whispera.
I'm not involved in any sort of sexcam stuff but I do have a an online persona and a following in connection with an innocent interest of mine - nothing bad or that would make me unemployable. Nevertheless, I'm still extraordinarily paranoid about employers doing background checks and searches on me, simply because my posts, podcasts, etc. show a side of me that isn't professional and that is more like a friend to friend sort of way of speaking and presenting myself. I'm impressed with your audacity in deciding to do camgirl work given the type of employment you wish to get in the future.... people screenshot, video, and share those sessions publicly far, far more often than you would think. If a future employer were to stumble across your stuff (via a google image search), it could be catastrophic for your employment plans.
Honestly, if I were you I would quit the camgirl thing altogether and do my best to scrub that particular endeavor off of the internet. I would even pay one of those internet cleanup companies to erase the evidence of it/bury it. Aside from how it could affect your employment opportunities, that sort of stuff has a nasty way of biting people where it hurts when friends, family, and partners find out about (which they inevitably will, it's simply a matter of time).
OP, what is going to happen at some point is either a future employer is going to find out and you won't get a job or they will find out at some point after you get the job and will get fired. Someone, at some point, is going to recognize you. And people talk. So eventually you will be blackballed from any job opportunity in your area.
I'm trying to understand at what point you thought this was a good idea? You always have to think of the consequences down the road instead of the instant gratification of having lots of money.
I'm probably in the minority, but I have serious doubts that this is a legitimate post. First time posters with wildly controversial posts always make my BS radar go off....
i thought about this and then considered that if i wanted to ask a similar question legitimately, i would absolutely create a throwaway account... and certainly she wouldn't be the first person in any career to cam (or dance, or whatever) her way through school, yeah?
I wouldn't think it would show up on any background check but the important thing is that you stop now as in never do it again from this moment in time. I doubt you would ever be recognized by a patient, the chances of that I really believe are slim. All that being said, under a moral turpitude clause this is something you could be fired for if you were doing it while employed. If you were ever arrested or questioned by the police in regards to this it could show up on a background check. I have never seen a job application where it asks about activities such as this only the "do you use illegal drugs" and "have you ever been arrested or convicted of a felony" questions.
According to Moral Turpitude: When Nurses Do Things That Are Intentionally Evil - Articles Archive - Working Nurse l Nursing Jobs, RN Career Advice in Los Angeles OC Inland Empire, they have to deem it either "vileness, intentional violence, deceit, fraud or dishonesty of a high degree. It is considered intentionally evil." and it seems to only refer to illegal activity, which is not what I am doing. Camming is completely legal and a valid way of making money.
Sooooo... you answered your own question.
I'm siding with the other posters thinking this is a stir-the-pot entry in the Baloney Sweepstakes.
No harm in a discussion about our online selves and how they affect our professional selves though! I just had a talk about this with some friends of mine and it's shocking how lax people can be about what they post on the internet. There's a lot of thoughtlessness out there - people regularly fail to thoroughly consider the future effects their online habits could have. Employers are constantly on the look-out for ways harm can be brought to their brand/business, and while an employee who has a history in cam girl work can be a liability to a brand, so can an employee who likes to get off of work, go home, have a few beers, and post rants publicly about how much he/she hates their job, co-workers, and managers. It's a good topic to get people thinking about.
Just saw this article. And while these are not pictures from Instagram, he could get images anywhere. Including shots of camgirls.

There has definitely been more than one teacher to lose their job over something like that. It just goes to show that it can catch up to you, BUT it doesn't always.
I wont comment on what I think about live sex shows because it's OP's life, not mine. Live and let live, different strokes for different folks, etc., etc.
