So my Clinical instructor said something interesting today. She said she Hates Hates HATES!!! working with women in Nursing and she wishes that Nursing was a male dominated field so that she could stand it....

Dont know what to make of this...any thoughts or experiences?

Less passive-aggressive behavior, for one. If people upset/disappoint/anger me they know about it from me.

Sorry to say but the men in my department are patient with me and are always ready to teach. Women on the other hand give you the feeling that you just don't belong there. That is the experience I have gotten from these past 2 months. Very difficult to work with women.... Some women are just catty, manipulative, and vain. I Really hated to say this about women but I am just speaking of my own experience as a woman how I am treated by other women.

I find most of the men I work with to be very straightforward which in nursing is a good thing, if they want help they ask rather than wandering around sighing and saying how busy they are. If they didn't do something, they tell you rather than let you find it at your 24 hour chart check. Additionally I find that the men I work with dont get involved in the cliques and the gossiping, although this may be in part to their being so few of them. That being said I wish we did have more.

Also, working on an ortho floor with a bunch of heavy patients its always nice to have the extra strength available.

Although I disagree with wanting nursing to be a male-dominated field,I do agree with the difficulty of dealing with so many crazy, emotionally-challenging attitudes,and I don't limit it to just nurses. I also feel that way about having a female physician as a boss!!! Just my opinion!!

I prefer working with men...they are not back-stabbers by nature,are not jealous as much as women and generally are more fun to work with.

Getting along with your co-workers is an important skill that requires *constant* effort. There will always be difficult people in your work environment, whether it is male- or female-dominated.

How about we all work on respecting our coworkers and being willing members of a team? It's working out pretty well for me - even though I *gasp* work in a department that's 100% women.

Wait, was that too passive-aggressive? ;)

Despite the stereotypes..in my experience, men gossip and talk more crud than us women. I prefer a mix of sexes..there are studies that conclude a balance of men and women yield higher work efficiency and job satisfaction. I can search for them if somebody challenges me as of right now I'm too lazy lol.

Women that say, "Oh I can't stand women. They are catty and passive-aggressive and blah blah..." entertain me. It's kind of ironic that those individuals are in fact being the cliquey, catty ones by discounting an entire gender...

I prefer to work with men for all the reasons stated above. I had a career in the military where I worked with men on a daily basis and found the workplace to be a much better situation, in spite of any of the drawbacks at any given point in time. Men have a tendency to be there to get the job done and get it done in an efficient manner. I learned good work habits from military men that have carried over into civilian life.

i agree with you!

i'm always amazed at the women who will state that "women are vain, passive-agressive, catty and backstabbing" and then go on to say (or imply) that they are the lonely exception to this rule. come on, people!

I say the same thing.

But I am lucky, the women I work with are hardcore, extremely talented and alligator skinned.
