Those that prefer to work with men

Nurses General Nursing

So my Clinical instructor said something interesting today. She said she Hates Hates HATES!!! working with women in Nursing and she wishes that Nursing was a male dominated field so that she could stand it....

Dont know what to make of this...any thoughts or experiences?

I don't care where the plumbing is either, as long as they are workers and have a good sense of humour.

I work with some fabulous men & women, but I must admit we have a couple of men who will always be 'boys'. Never know where anything is kept, always give you that startled 'who me' look if you remind them they haven't done something they are supposed to etc etc.

We have women who don't get their act together either!

The worst experience I had with a nurse where the nurse cursed me out in front of the others was with a male. However, on the whole I prefer to have a workplace with a balance of males and females. My current job has a good balance, and I find it productive and supportive.

I personally would like to see where you found that men gossip more than women. I don't really see that myself... Now being more crude? I'll take that. It's comes with the territory (and by territory I mean guys) Sometimes people find that more amusing, while others find it downright appalling (I'm the former).

The crude nature is a norm for us. Have you ever listened to your bf or hubby talk to their friends when they don't know you're listening? Take note next time. It's just the way we are. It's how we're wired. It's how we have fun and deal with stress.

One idle observation that I've found is that many men won't ask for help (it was really REALLY hard for me to do), though many women have no problem with this. It's the ying and the yang, you gotta go with the flow. You just have to be content to be.

To be honest your clinical instructor was pretty unprofessional for saying it. She needs to keep her prejudices to herself.

My husband is an engineer and works in this type of setting. It seems that men can work together for years without knowing much about the people they work with. They don't ask and are not that interested. Work is for work. Social life is in a separate compartment.

I work in a female environment. I can tell you the names of everyone's children, how their lives are going. Work is a subset of life, and not it's own category. Gossip happens because women provide an ample supply.

I've heard that too from alot of people.

There are only 2 male nurses and 2 PCTS on our unit. After being just 1 of us, or two of us against the women most nights, it is such a relief when we can all 4 work together for a few hours.

The women hate it:D, mostly because we congregate, keep the thermostat as low as it will go, and are always saying "DUDE!" and fist bumping (the last one is mainly to annoy the women).

When its just the women, the conversations NEVER freakin end! "OMG, I broke a nail 3 months ago...Do these socks make my butt look big.....so kids just did this and....blah blah blah blah frickin blah!"

When us guys work its more like: *silence.....crickets chirping* "So dude I finally installed that Rough Country Lift kit and put those 35 inch swampers on my truck"...*15 minutes of auto related conversation*......*more silence....sweet silence:yeah:*

i'm probably going to get flamed for this, but here it goes:

i have to really wonder about women (or men)who make statements like this. it really makes me think that they must have serious issues with their own self image to degrade their own gender.

i enjoy working with individuals. don't really base it on whether their plumbing is internal or external!

no flames from me; i agree with you!

i don't get the impression anyone is pre-judging.

meaning, that those of us who've had the more neg experiences with women, have been based on personal exposure.

we don't make these determinations until after the fact.

it doesn't mean that all women suck, just that to date, it's been much less desirable to work with them overall.

fwiw, my self-image is up there.:)

I prefer to work with men also. It isn't necessarily that I get along better with men - that's certainly not always the case. But in general, in my experiences working with men, there's an unspoken live and let live policy. They don't get all upset if I don't chit chat with 'em, etc. I feel free to do my job without having to also constantly mentally babysit the social aspect.

Exactly this in my experience. And no one gets all bent out of shape by the silence or feels the need to fill it.

It's an evil plot by men to keep us women hating on each other...if we all got along we'd rule the world!!! ;)
