Those that prefer to work with men

So my Clinical instructor said something interesting today. She said she Hates Hates HATES!!! working with women in Nursing and she wishes that Nursing was a male dominated field so that she could stand it....

Dont know what to make of this...any thoughts or experiences?

Count me in, I'd rather work with men

i like working with straight-shooters.

it just so happens, most of them have been men.

I like working with women... less sexist crap to listen to all day.

I'm male and have been fortunate enough to work with a pretty strong group of female nurses in the ER. I guess I'm lucky but I haven't encountered much of the gossiping/backstabbing. If I had the choice, I would prefer to have an even mix of male and female.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but here it goes:

I have to really wonder about women (or men)who make statements like this. It really makes me think that they must have serious issues with their own self image to degrade their own gender.

I enjoy working with individuals. Don't really base it on whether their plumbing is internal or external!

Very much me too!

Let me tell you...Dont have experience in the nursing feild yet, from factory experience, I would take a man to work with over a woman any day of the week! Men are either open about what their reactions and/or thoughts are and most of the time they are not sneaky and conniving to a woamn they dont want to sleep with. Working with women is the thing that makes me the most nervous about the nursing field. :uhoh3:

PS i still think that Women are the most amazing creatures on earth. :)

It depends on the individual. Some of the laziest, most annoying nurses I've worked with were male. And it seemed that they got cut extra slack that a similar female wouldn't get. Some men are arrogant and think they know everything - just like some women. And I hated working down in South Austin - there are a lot of young male nurses there but for some reason, they act like a bunch of teenage girls - dramatic and emotional.

It's like when they say a man is assertive, but a woman acting the same way is a *****.

Wow! thanks for all the great answers and honesty :yeah:

Despite the stereotypes..in my experience, men gossip and talk more crud than us women. I prefer a mix of sexes..

have to say i agree here! i have worked in a male dominated field and oh-my-word...the cattiness ! lol Matter of fact...i use to think women were bad....not so!

An even mix of genders seems to keep both in check in my experience

For me it just depends on the individual, but I have had some unpleasant experiences with several female nurses.

As one who used to work in a male-dominated field (software engineering) and now work in a female-dominated field... along with many varied experiences with living arrangements involving all men, all women (when I was involved with one of the women) and mixed genders, I've long been of the opinion that mixing genders has a tendency to civilize a group. Although, I find that the presence of just one woman can civilize a group of men, it usually takes more than one man to civilize a significantly large group of women. :coollook:
