For those who work nights currently or have worked nights at some point do you want different hours? Working 7p-730am is tough on sleep and can be difficult on your personal life. I really feel for those working 8pm-830am.

What would be better for night shift workers. Day people still benefit regardless of the change.

4pm-430am

5pm-530am

6pm-630am

10-6am 4 days a week but paid like 5.

I'm one of those ancient nurses who worked 11pm to 7am back in the day. I was one of the original nurses on a pilot program trialing 12 hour shifts. We worked hard to get those 12 hour shifts, and I'll give them up when I retire but not before.

I would never go back to working 5 days a week, so 11-7 would be a job taken out of desperation.

The earlier hours can conflict with the kids getting home from school and my husband being home from work to watch them; I want to leave after the kids are home, my husband is back from work and all is well at home before I go.

Some of the hospitals in my area are 3p-3a. I'm not sure if I would like either shift since I haven't worked for them. I'm a 6:30pm-7am or a 10:30-7am. I currently have a .8 position where I do two 12's and an 8.

I like it, but I have noticed that I have less trouble getting to sleep if I'm in bed before dawn. So certain times of the year this isn't possible.

11p-7am you would work 4 days not 5, but paid like 5. I should of put 10-6am. I think that would work better for parents. I realize I goofed on the poll. Will see if a mod fixes for me.

Ten to six gives a chance to get to a day shift job. Working four days, paid for five isn't going to happen where I'm at.

I know of a hospital in south florida that has a 1pm-1am shift. I wish I had the option of that shift. You get off early enough to still sleep like a normal person and its not that far off the way people normally sleep so you dont end up feeling like a zombie.

Based on my body clock and that I drive to a very traffic-ridden area, 11A-11:30P x 3 days/wk would suit me wonderfully (these are the IV Team hours at my hospital). Traffic considerations, however, would also make me think of 4PM-4:30A as a fantastic alternative as well.

"Day people still benefit regardless of the change. " The day shift VS: night shift attitude needs to go. It's a 24/7 job.

Whatever night shift hours works best for you.. is up to you. As you said, " it can be difficult on YOUR personal life."

I will never go back to night shift if at all possible, but back in the day, I would have liked 10p-6, 4 paid for 5. I didn't like with the 6pm or even 7pm start, I only had a couple hours at best to see my kids after school, plus I missed out of sporting events, concerts, meetings, etc. that took place in the evening. Also made it hard to get back home in time to help at all with getting kids to school.
