For those who work nights currently or have worked nights at some point do you want different hours? Working 7p-730am is tough on sleep and can be difficult on your personal life. I really feel for those working 8pm-830am.
What would be better for night shift workers. Day people still benefit regardless of the change.
4pm-430am
5pm-530am
6pm-630am
10-6am 4 days a week but paid like 5.
I'll keep 7pm-730am
I don't think day shift gets the benefit of working days if they are coming in at 3-4am. I work day shift 7a-7:30p and shift up to work 3a-3:30p when it's needed without a problem however it's not something I do more than a few shifts a schedule. When working at 3am I'm in bed between 6-7pm, so I lose a big part of my day. I lost my entire Friday night since I was already in bed when my friends and coworkers were just getting off work. I'm happy to do it occasionally to help my unit out, but it's not a shift I would voluntarily sign up for for 100% of my shifts. I'd rather just work nights and get the benefit of the shift differential for the entire shift.[/quote']I stayed away from 3am starts as a poll option. I think 4am is the earliest. Would you not be happy with 5am-530pm. I worked that shift once and loved it. I don't have children but I could imagine if I did I could be at home and showered by 630.Food ready by 730.Homework check at 8. Lights out at 900.
I work two 12 hours every weekend and get paid for three 12 hours. Even though that rocks, I still hate 12 hour shifts.
Wow! I've never heard of that before. I've heard of 3-12's and getting paid for 40, but not 2-12's and getting paid for 36. Don't mind me standing in the corner over here evil eyeing you because I'm VERY JEALOUS! í ½í¸Š

Its called the Baylor plan. That nurse is a weekender but, I prefer to call them the weekend warriors
"Day people still benefit regardless of the change. " The day shift VS: night shift attitude needs to go. It's a 24/7 job.Whatever night shift hours works best for you.. is up to you. As you said, " it can be difficult on YOUR personal life."
Right? So day shift suddenly starts in the middle of the night at 0300 or 0400 instead of 0700, and that is a benefit? I interviewed at a place where the hours were 3-3, and I'm glad now I didn't get that job (for other reasons too), but hours like that just means EVERYONE works in the middle of the night.

I think that would work if your (hypothetical) kids were older. Right now, I've got a toddler and an infant (10.5 months). I'm fortunate I have family that helps watch them from when my husband leaves and I get home to about 2-3pm so I can get a bit of sleep. I pay them but not near what I would shell out in daycare for 2 under 3. Lemme tell you, they have no concept of time ðŸ˜ðŸ˜‚

Day shift starting at 4am is good IMO. More family time for those with families. Those without can still benefit by being able to attend happy hour or various other after work social activities with friends. When one gets off at 730pm social activities are just about over by the time you get home and clean up.
Maybe I have always misunderstood, but I thought 3p-3a shifts were more like to cover the busiest times at the ER and such? I would HATE that shift (or 4, 5, or 6 pm to am alternatives). I feel like I would still accomplish nothing in the afternoons before work, so to me there would be no point in changing. I think I might like doing two 12s and two 8s or something, but that means going in to work one more time a week. Don't think I could cope with all that.

If you chose 10pm-6am yes it is one more day but you are also getting paid for 40 hours.7pm-7am pays you for 36 hours. That is an extra 4 free hours for working nights.
