Hi, anyone want to brag a bit? After all, I think we deserve it.
I thought it would be fun to share some of our victories and things we think we should be patted on the back for.
Here's mine....I passed my first skills test this week and got a 100 on our first quiz in Fundamentals which I am soooo proud of because, as everyone knows, nursing tests are different than any other tests, you have to learn to think differently. You have to learn to think like a nurse, and WOOHOO, I DID IT!
Yes!! Right?! Why be there if you aren't able to give 110%?! Some of my classmates are just hoping to pass, which a 77 in every single class. A few already have had to repeat classes, we are only going into our second quarter. Many don't have a full time job to worry about, or a family, or any responsibilities really other than school. NO EXCUSE for struggling to pass! You are either not dedicated enough or not able to hack it at this point in your life. What I tell everyone to keep in mind is that our jobs WILL hold lives in the balance, literally, would you want a nurse that just squeaked by in school caring for you?? I want to be able to treat my patients knowing that I gave all I had to make sure I was a competant, knowledgeable nurse.![]()
Keep up the good work!!
While I understand that sentiment, at the same time, some people just aren't good test takers, so they might know the content better than someone who got a better grade or might be able to apply it better, but it doesn't reflect on their grades. I know that in my program tests account for 96% of your grade, so if you aren't a good test taker, you won't have good grades even if you know the content like the back of your hand and apply it like lotion!
Okay, I'll chime in:
I earned a 97% on my first exam in my health maintenance class.
BUT what I'm really proud of: I held the bucket for a patient yesterday while she threw up into it...and I didn't get sick!! If you asked me 5 weeks ago how I'd react to watching someone throw up, I would've told you that I would, in turn, lose it. I'm amazed that it didn't phase me! It's one of those small things that reinforces my decision to go into nursing!
