first RN paycheck?

Published

I'm currently a 16 year old nursing student at Palm beach state college and I was just curious to know what others have done with their first RN/ BSN paycheck .

Paid bills that needed to be caught up on. You can buy yourself something small as a reward, but I wouldn't spend too much. Save, pay off debt, save, pay up your bills, save.

I cried a little.

And then I bought more scrubs so that I didn't have to wash them halfway through my week.

My first paycheck was well over 40 years ago and I don't remember it at all. But I DO know I was earning all of $3/hr working as an LPN on the 3-11 shift at Mass General Hospital; and I remember that because my first raise was 10 cents more per hour! It was actually a thrill, no kidding!

Imagine getting by on that little now? :yeah: But, also back then, the benefit package was pretty primo; practically a free ride , health insurance-wise.

I don't remember what I did with it, but I remember being relieved that I could pay my bills.

My first paycheck I filled the tank on my long suffering car and bought scrubs so I would look like the cool girls [ : )

As an aside, OP, I would like to say CONGRATULATIONS for a job well done. It takes a lot of stamina, smarts and a go-getter attitude to take HS and college courses. And an additional KUDOs for knowing what you wanted to study in college.

My son had an A.S. degree by the time he finished HS by doing the same thing.......

Thanks for coming on this site and posting your topic....and for making more people aware of this not often tapped resource.

Omgosh! I bought a LV handbag and never told my husband how much i paid for it.

They will never understand. Mine said he would understand why it cost so much if it came with $500 in cash inside. 😂

You know it has been so long, I really don't remember. I most likely put some towards my student loans, paid rent and put some in the bank to enjoy later!!! It is a decent living, but I don't think any of us have ever made more than we could spend or owe!!

I bought a new sofa! Nothing like furniture to welcome you into adulthood :)

I took 500 out and went on a shopping spree for badly needed new clothes for myself, and paid off a credit card.

My husband and I contracted to build a house right before I graduated. My first 3 paychecks meant we did not have to use up his 401k for the down payment. Maybe not as much fun as some of the others, but I was happy that we were able to do it the way we did.

I finally filled my gas tank to full! I had been working for a full month before I got my paycheck and you better believe both my checking account and car were running on E!

I looked at it and said, "Is that all?"
