do you drink coffee during your shift?

Kind of a silly question, but I've been wondering for some time now. :shy: do you have enough time, is there a rule preventing it, do you try to limit fluid intake because you don't have enough time to go to the bathroom?

I aim for my 12:00 coffee every single shift, and if I don't work again the next day/night, I'll have another closer to the end of the shift. I have one on the way in, and if I'm feeling it, I might have another after that. I just love coffee so much. It is the glorious, glorious nectar of the gods. My life would cease to exist if ever coffee and I parted ways.

Unless someone is coding, nothing is going to stop me from using the bathroom or grabbing a bite to eat. I think the holding ni your pee thing is grossly exaggerated

A rule against drinking coffee? Who ever heard of such a thing?

That said I don't drink coffee at work or at all. I've been caffeine free since college.

I don't drink coffee. The smell makes me ill (I can't figure it out either). Unfortunately, instead of coffee I consume Mountain Dew. And that my dear friends is worse than a coffee habit.

I drink a cup of coffee or tea during our huddle and drink water throughout the day. Sometimes I'll make a Starbucks (we have one on campus) run around 10:00 if I need an extra strong cup. Gone are the days where I wouldn't drink and become dehydrated because I didn't have time to use the bathroom. Unless it's an emergency everything else can wait.

Two cups first thing in the morning before heading off to work. Then I drink iced tea or diet Coke or Pepsi (whatever is on sale). I have NO problem drinking something with caffeine while at work.

Yep. I have a cup when I come in and again at 0130. Oh how I count down to that second cup. They're fine with drinks at the desk as long as they have lids.

I have a sodastream and a bottle of diet redbull syrup. That's all I need.

Ugh, that stuff looks toxic.

Love the smell of coffee but dispite mass amounts of flavoring, sugar, and cream - can't stomach it.

Im a diet pop junky.

As long as you have a pulse and are breathing - the awaiting squad or patient request can wait until I use the bathroom.

Very rarely do I drink coffee during my shift(nights). I usually drink water. I don't drink coffee hardly ever though even at home.

30 plus years of night shifts, never learned to appreciate the taste. Which is a pity because I'm always cold (and coffee is not only hot but free), my drink of choice is Coke, although in the last 10 years I've switched to diet stuff.

Some nights are so frantic that taking time to go to the bathroom seems impossible, but seriously? If it isn't a code or a trauma, you do have time to duck out to go. Smokers certainly manage to find time~
