Doctor's Fiancee yelled at me

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I was at the nurses station when I answered a phone call from a Doctor's Fiancee. She asked if she can speak to Dr. So and So...I told her to wait a few minutes. Well...a few minutes turned into several minutes since he was busy with patients.

His fiancee then proceeded to yell at me profusely saying I'm not doing my job. I've seen her at the hospital before walking around like she's all that.

The kicker is...she's my age 23...and her fiancee is a 35 year old surgeon.

She's a Teacher...if she treats her students as badly as she treats anyone else...I truely feel bad for those kids.

Also, what am I? Your fiancee's secretary? I'm a nurse.

To me, when you sit and do nothing you are giving that person permission to do it to someone else.

She would not be bashing the fiance...she is simply stating the facts of the phone call.

People get angry when they are expected to defend on the spot or if you are confrontational with them.

If you do it respectfully, privately, quietly...even apologetically...he would have to be a fairly big jerk to go off on the nurse.

I used to think as you do, that I owed it to others to "correct" someone, it would be ok if I did it with the right heart and approach. I have since learned that some people just do NOT like being told, informed, corrected, no matter how nice I was about it, no matter if it was to avoid future tzuris for others. It was a real slap in the face, a big eye-opener for me. I just avoid as much controversy as possible.

Chicken? Maybe. Why did the chicken cross the road? To avoid trouble. :jester::eek::chuckle:up::yeah::smokin::D:banghead::cry::jester:

:argue::clown::chuckle Just call me Chicken Man.

Let me ask you all this question...

How many doctor-nurse relationships have you seen at your hospital?

I think the OP watches too many soap operas. Even "ER" isnt as she describes! Being a doctor or anything else for that matter, is not the end all and be all in life.... She will grow up and learn, or else she wont....

None of us Nurses would be Nurses, and none of the Doctors would be Doctors, if it wasn't for Teachers!!

This has to be the best response on this thread. It says it all! The fact that we are even responding to the OP's inane comments is probably feeding into her distorted views. Sorry for being so blunt, but this is ridiculous.

Wow, Shallow much?

I am an RN-BSN. I graduated with honors and plan to go on for my masters and become a midwife...my husband never graduated high school...maybe I should leave him and move on to a doctor...(sarcasm here)

What I did not tell you is that my husband is a Contractor, owns his own business and makes twice as much as I do...but I married him when he was making $10/hr working for some one else, and I do not love him anymore today because he makes much more than he did 9 years ago...I love him because of who he is, not because of what he does or how much he makes.

We aren't married to the same person are we? LOL My husband dropped out at the end of middle school, I got with him when I worked in childcare and he made about 300 a week as a car detailer at honda. Then he got into construction making 25 bucks and hour and got laid off. Now he owns his own successful business making 2-3 times as much as I will ever make as a nurse.

As far as Teachers, nurses are teachers. They teach their patients.

School teachers are wonderful people, they are another profession of underpaid overworked people, just like child care workers, these people help make the other professions possible. After all, who else is taking care of and teaching the children of today helping to mold the adults of tomorrow, while the parents are off working.

allrighty then...

I did try to tell the Doctor nicely...but he absolutely snapped at me.

I pursued Nursing to marry a Doctor...but I feel as if I chose the wrong profession since so many are in relationships, engaged, or married to Teachers.

What is so special about Teachers...that Doctor's prefer them over us...when we're right in front of them.

Is this for real?

you definitely chose the wrong profession. if it were true that nurses eat their young, you'd be prime for snacking.

or else you're a troll.

QT you are very delusional about what being a "Doctor's Wife" is like. Let me tell you it's not all that it's cracked up to be.

I commented on your post before mentioning I AM one of those Teachers who married a Doctor that you have such negative feelings towards.

You have this idea that your life is going to be all rainbows and sunshine after you marry a Doctor...well it's not. If you're after money...you're better off with plenty other men.

I honestly NEVER thought I would marry a Doctor...life happens and sometimes the love of your life will pop out from no where. So don't just limit yourself to Doctors...there are PLENTY of eligible Bachelors out there that are just as good or even better.

I'm 24 only 1 year older than you...but I feel as if our maturity level is 10 years apart.

Specializes in ER, ICU, Education.

Odd that the fiancee doesn't know his cell phone/pager number.

Excellent point. Maybe the doctor has better judgement after all.
