Colorful Shoes - Unprofessional?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

I bought a pair of Danskos that have colorful flowers painted on them and another one that has a bunch of random colors dotted on them for my new job. One bonus was that I found them for under 100 dollars and free shipping. They look cute and fun but I do not work in an ER or a children's floor. I will work in an adult ICU on nights.

Could they be viewed as unprofessional?

I wear Nikes with fluorescent yellow soles. Not a big deal! I still dress professionally in solid colored scrubs.

Our dress code is very specific with uniform colors and not allowing prints, but it's wide open for shoes. The trend at my work is to find the brightest shoes possible and I love this! I have highlighter yellow, pink, and orange shoes, and shiny silver Danskos. Even our CNS wears highlighter colored shoes. I love this about my work :)

Professionalism comes across a lot in how you carry yourself, so as long as it's in your dress code, GO FOR IT!

the way i see it, there are so many rules and regulations in school and work and between these facilities about covering up tattoos, facial hair, hair length, earrings, uniforms and the whole 9 that shoes are probably the one little thing you can actually play around with and have fun with. so as long as its not against some kind of dress code i say go nuts! have some personality. if i were a patient i wouldn't find it unprofessional at all

I wear grey and red running shoes, I bought them for the comfort, and if I am not allowed to wear them, then I wont go to work. I will not sacrifice the comfort of my feet anymore.

If your dress code allows it, I don't see why not! I actually have the flower danskos as well, just got them for my birthday and people always comment on how fun they are!

I wear flower Alegria shoes - they are quite the conversation starter!

Shoes are the most fun part of my uniform! I love love love colorful nursing shoes and so do the patients and other staff members.

I wear Alegrias and I have some really colorful ones. Frankly, I don't care whether they'r considered unprofessional or not!

My facility just went to mandatory scrub colors for nurses and HCT's. Our shoes are now the only form of personal expression we have as far as our dress attire goes (Except for stethoscope's).

You wanna guess just how colorful our shoes have become even on the most normally monotone of worker's!!! :wacky:

Have fun and express yourself...you shoes may one day soften up a scared patient, family member, or coworker's day!

I love my colorful Danskos and don't feel they are unprofessional at all. Just an FYI the website 6pm.com frequently has them way less than 100.00 and always has free shipping. That's where I get mine.

Specializes in Emergency Department; Neonatal ICU.

I have the red marbled patent leather danskos and I love them. Patients frequently comment on them and will say they see my shoes coming under the curtain so they know it is me.

Ah yes, the mandatory colors for scrubs. We are doing this too but it hasn't yet gone into effect. Ours are black so the shoes will be the only color in our hospital attire.
