Arnold Schwartzneiger says "We need to create more nurses"

Nurses General Nursing

Published

What are we objects? When he announced last night that he would be running for Governor again he said he was running again because "we need to create more ER Rooms, more hospitals, more nurses". I am all for more hospitals but you dont CREATE nurses. We are people!!!! It would also help to have more Nursing School Programs dont you think? There's a reason why there is a Nurse shortage and I think that a big part of it has to do with the fact that half of the people that want to become nurses are on a waiting list somewhere.

A house for 115,00! I'm movin' to Arizona.

$115,000, but he said that was back in 1999. You couldn't find a house like that now, in 2005.

My cousin and her husband bought a house out in Maricopa (underdeveloped area) 3 years ago and now the value of their house is over double what they paid for it. I'd kill to find a house in a nice area for $115,000.

Ok-that made me crack up! :rotfl: I can just see him saying that too. I know what he meant, but he really needs to work on his language skills!

Saying what California "wants" is speaking for Californians, plain and simple. Make all the observations you wish, but don't assume you know what anyone else "wants" unless they tell you specifically.

Well Mercy, this sounds like you are trying to silence someone's opinion. And there are plenty of examples of Hollywoodians telling the rest of America what to think and say.

Well now that's curious. How could telling someone to make all the observations that want be equated with attempting to silence them? Yes, there are plenty of people from Hollywood that tell people what to think. Quoting them directly is no problem. Why anyone would believe that every Californian agrees with everyone in Hollywood puzzles me. I only ask people who are, after all, basically strangers to me, don't assign statements to me that I haven't made. It is inaccurate at best, and dishonest at worst, and I can't imagine why anyone would think it is acceptable.

Ok, have we strayed a little off topic?...eh hem, Arnie?...Nurses? This has begun to sound like a totally different thread here. Just a stay on topic reminder. Also folks, just a play nice reminder. I don't live in California...but, California is a BIG place...very multi-cultural. Hollywood is a culture all its own and I'm sure does NOT represent most of California or much of the nation for that matter. California has its pluses and minuses...just like any other state...as so previously described. Let's take off the gloves, please. So, the original topic was Arnie and nurses...can we return to that?

I was born in Northern CA and grew up in Southern CA . . .. There truly is a huge difference.

And you are right - people always ask me if I've met any movie stars. :)

(The funny thing is - I actually have:coollook:

p.s. To get back on topic I still think it is not a big deal that Arnold says we need to create more nurses.

Its just that saying the word "create" maybe he cuold have gotten more information about nurses and he would have realized that lots of people want to become nurses but there arent enough funds given to schools to hire more educators. Instead most of the people that want to become nurses are put on years long wait list and some never get to go to Nursing School. Nurses arent born over night, and we are certainly not made in labs. We are people that work VERY VERY VERY hard to get to where we are. You need alot of heart and courage to become a nurse. Most people just dont wake up one morning and say "oh I want to be a nurse". When he said "We need to create more nurses" it offended me because he makes it seem like its really easy to become a nurse and like nobody wants to become a nurse when the truth is the opposite. That's just the way I feel.

Create more nurses? Um...you mean robot nurses? Suppose gov't of California has a factory somewhere overseas building robot nurses on the expense of the tax payers? Kind of remind me of the movie where wives are replaced by robots!

If I thought the word "create" could be explained away by the language difference (although there's nothing wrong with expecting our head of state to have a command of the English language, surely!), this comment wouldn't have bothered me. Like you say, it is the fact that he doesn't present any evidence at all that he understands what needs to be done to prepare more nurses.
