Arnold Schwartzneiger says "We need to create more nurses"

Nurses General Nursing

Published

What are we objects? When he announced last night that he would be running for Governor again he said he was running again because "we need to create more ER Rooms, more hospitals, more nurses". I am all for more hospitals but you dont CREATE nurses. We are people!!!! It would also help to have more Nursing School Programs dont you think? There's a reason why there is a Nurse shortage and I think that a big part of it has to do with the fact that half of the people that want to become nurses are on a waiting list somewhere.

Sometimes Arnold has a little trouble with the English language but I'm sure he just meant we need to find ways to overcome the nursing shortage. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

And no, I didn't vote for him.

Well, at least he's acknowledging that nurses are 1) in short supply and 2) necessary to the running of hospitals! I'm all for anyone who has any plans to address nursing shortages. Still, this does seem a little interesting in light of the governor's track record on Californian nurses.

I understand that he has english troubles and my dad pointed this out to me when I told him about this. You would think that he prepares his speeched ahead of tim though. At least his wife could help him. We all know she knows about public speeches.

His track record on nurses has more to do with the CNA.

He did intervene in the ratio law - our small hospital was actually struggling with how to do the 5:1 ratio when we don't have enough staff AND we work in a small mountain community where nurses don't grow on trees.

We've done it - but some of the nurses are getting burnt out as there are OB on-call shifts that need coverage and we don't have the staff to cover sick calls w/o nurses being asked to work over their normal schedule.

I think he meant it in a good way. Arnie has been a big dissapointment for me and I'm kind of sad that he's running again.

I think he meant it in a good way too.

I am also disappointed he is running.

He just makes me sad cause he talked such a good game!!! I would vote Republican if they were all socially moderate and fiscally responsible, which is what the govenator ran on. If not for all the religious and corporate welfare stuff, I would be a Republican.... unfortunately Arnie has been really disapointing.

Ditto. :)

Don't care for the man at all, but I do give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. Language issues.. even if pre written, he's not the kind to stick to a written speech.

As far as running again.. he's done too much "running off at the mouth"...don't think he'll get too far this time around. :chuckle

Note to Ahnie: Nurses are real people who have education and skills, not one of the special effects in the movies I wish to God you'd go back to making instead of pretending to govern the state that I love!

In 2002 Davis started the "Nurse Workforce Initiative" to increase the supply of Nurses in CA. From what I can tell, there hasn't been any changes to the wait lists or number of new grads. Now the govenator has the "Nurse Education Initiative" which is pretty much a new name for what Davis started. I'm very doubtful that he will actually follow through with this and we will see any change. I usually vote republican but I didn't vote for him the first time and I'm not voting for him this time.

California is so far over its head w/ its desires for rights without responsibilities that no Gov could be successful.

California:

Wants all the gas and electricity it needs - but it wants all the other states to produce it and sell it to them below costs. No oil platforms off its coast - that's what the Gulf of Mexico is for. No refineries here.

Wants to tax evil business high amounts of money to finance all its schemes - but can't understand why Arizona is the fastest growing State in the Union. (hint: California business exodus)

Wants to be at the vanguard of changing society (stem cell research, gay marriage, illlegal alien rights, environmentaliist extremism, on and on) but can't understand why it's budget is nigh bankrupt.

California's problem isn't its Gov - it's the idea that social consciousness and 'not in my backyard' mentality combined w/ its malicious anti-business philosophy creates a huge demand on tax dollars while at the same time denying the tax base an opportunity to expand.

Somebody once gave me a great definition of poliltics: politics is a discussion about the allocation of resources. Just about every political calculation comes down to that.

That being the case, the demands of the citizens of California dictate an impossible political situation.

I said this in another thread recently: Arnold says that there aren't enough nurses to enforce the ratios, nurses throw fits. Arnold says we need more nurses, nurses throw fits.

If you're gonna throw a fit EVERY TIME HE OPENS HIS MOUTH, then people will stop trying to figure out what you think is really worth debating.

I'm not California bashing. And California isn't the only state where the government overpromises so that the elected officials that comprise the government can get elected. Shoot, look at the National Government, regardless the party in charge.

All I'm saying is, what did you expect of ANY GOV when the citizens have a mentality of 'we want everything except the burdens that come with having everything'.

Of course, Arnold knew all this going in. But so should have the citizens of the Rep of Calif.
