Arnold Schwartzneiger says "We need to create more nurses"

What are we objects? When he announced last night that he would be running for Governor again he said he was running again because "we need to create more ER Rooms, more hospitals, more nurses". I am all for more hospitals but you dont CREATE nurses. We are people!!!! It would also help to have more Nursing School Programs dont you think? There's a reason why there is a Nurse shortage and I think that a big part of it has to do with the fact that half of the people that want to become nurses are on a waiting list somewhere.

I don't think the academic requirements are the problem. It's the JOB, folks, a job that pays fairly well but wrecks your body, your sleep schedule, your social life, and interferes with your family, especially with these mandatory extra 12 hour shifts. Once they start addressing the appalling working conditions, maybe nurses will come out of retirement and new nurses will actually stay at the bedside instead of trading the scrubs in for a corporate blazer and expense account.

Well, in my area it is ALL about the academics. They'll choose an unstable individual w/ a 4.0 over someone w/ a 3.0. I've seen it happen. Your last statement is getting old , hopefully intelligent nurses would have done some research on the nursing profession before they would go to nursing school. Why waste 2-4 years in NS if you're going to walk away?They should know all about the 12 hour shifts, lack of social life and so on. Nursing is a huge commitment and takes dedication. I know all this and i'm still working on prereqs!
