Well, in my area it is ALL about the academics. They'll choose an unstable individual w/ a 4.0 over someone w/ a 3.0. I've seen it happen. Your last statement is getting old , hopefully intelligent nurses would have done some research on the nursing profession before they would go to nursing school. Why waste 2-4 years in NS if you're going to walk away?They should know all about the 12 hour shifts, lack of social life and so on. Nursing is a huge commitment and takes dedication. I know all this and i'm still working on prereqs!

I totally agree! To the OP, sounds like you're working with a real bunch of 'characters'! :chuckle You're so lucky, too many stories out there about mean docs. Best wishes with your job. :)

Heres hoping you get the job!! You are soooo lucky, hospitals here won't hire NA's or even LPN's in the ER. I'm currently working in LTC, working on prereqs and hoping to get into the degree program very soon. Good luck! :)

Not here! If you are a licensed practical Nurse and would like to bridge into the BSN program, you can. You are placed in the 3rd semester of the BSN. In fact the LPN program here is a Diploma program and is two years. I've heard nurses say that it is the old RN program.

I hadn't read through all the posts, but wanted to make a comment. Yes, it is true that we need more nurses. Maybe if colleges and universities lightened up a little on the prereqs, allowed more individuals in with a 3.0 instead of the mandatory 4.0 in some areas, maybe more nurses will be 'created'. Better yet, in regards to waiting lists; hire more profs and have more classes.......

Great letter! As with people saying 'just a nurse, you are much smarter', it really really bugs me. I'm entering a program soon and must achieve a 3.5 GPA or greater to get in. You have to be just as smart as a doctor to be an RN, especially if you are doing a BsN or masters degree. Alot of doctors may be book smart, but are sure dense common sense wise. Best of luck to you and don't allow anyone to steer you in the wrong correction.

jennie, you are a good person. don't feel guilty. i can't speak for your mom, but imho i believe that your mom would not have wanted to 'live' on life support. i am sorry for your pain. you have my deepest sympathy. please stay strong. :icon_hug:

my cousin was a rn for years and just finished her np program. she too is allowed to write scripts. in fact, i may be more inclined to trust a np over some md's...... :uhoh21:
