When I read posts like this, it adds another reason to my list of why my hubby and I do not want children. :chuckle

Zee, I do not believe any job should come before your family. To be at a job for 2 yrs and not be able to take time off when you want to is insane. I worked for a hospital that forbid employees to take time off if they had no PTO.....I explained to my manager that I was not concerned if I would not be paid for my Vacation, but I would be taking my 2 wks off (which had been booked for 6 months). I was then told that I would be considered "sick" and I would need a Doctors Excuse before returning back to work. Whatever!!!!!!!!! :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire After enjoying a 2 wk cruise around the caribbean (sp?) which was so needed, I went back to work (with my Dr's excuse), and turned in my notice (2 wks). My manager could not understand why I was so upset......after excepting my resignation she called me at home the next day to cancel me for my shifts for the weekend saying "census is down, we will not be needing you". this happened for the following weekend also, so needless to say I felt I was being "punished" for standing up for myself. In this day and age, I feel that whomever you work for you are just an Employee number, and as long as you come into work, do not call off sick, do not complain, do not have an opinion, and do not have a life they (management) leave you alone. Remember, there are always jobs out there, and you only have one family, and one life to make happy memories (sp?). Go on vacation with your family. Sorry, just my opinion, Jayne

Has anyone seen the croc add ons that have been on the ebay site? If you go onto ebay and put in crocs in the search bar, you will find the designs to add onto your crocs for all occasions.........interesting idea.....what does everyone else think? I guess they just push into the holes.......again very interesting. :rotfl: I wonder if it catches on!

Well guys, They are placing my grandma on Tuesday, earlier than expected, my mom called my so many times at work last night crying......so I am heading out sooner than I thought. I will keep you all updated.

Than you all for your responses, I have spent many hours online researching this horrible disease. I will be flying home to England the day before Thanksgiving to stay with my mom for 10 days to help out with placing my grandma, and packing up her house and spending time with grandma. My mom is devasted, I really do not think it has sunken in yet for her. I will keep you all updated, again many thanks for all your comments.

Lori, Like you I was at work until 10am finishing up the paperwork on those falls..........I was able to talk to my DON that morning also and that really helped. Two of my falls were preventable....1 pt had been left on the toilet so long she decided to try and walk back to bed without assistance......luckily there were no broken bones........but I was livid at the STNA who was assigned to her.......many complaints in the past on this STNA.....after the investigation, and I feel from the family pushing at the facilty this STNA was let go.......I must say that 95% of the STNA's that I work with are wonderful. At times you cannot help the falls that happen, these pts are going to climb, and do their own thing even with all the bed/chair alarms on......to me once you hear an alarm it is usually to late the pt is already attempting to be mobile, and that is when they are found on the floor. Just remember you can only be in one place at a time, try not to beat yourself up. Have a good cry, I know it always helps me. :)

Lori, I am so sorry you have had such a terrible night. I also work in a LTC facility, and when it rains it pours.....the most falls I have had on my shift is 4....and that drove me to tears......b/c on the 11-7 shift we do not have a supervisor..it is me and another nurse who works the other wing, and that is it. Let us know how things are going...when are you on duty again? Remember cya....document, document, document. And your All nurses buddies are always here for a shoulder to cry on. :)

Hi all, My Grandma was recently diagnosed with Picks disease......over the next few weeks she will be getting placed in a facility d/t her not being able to take care of herself anymore. My question is:- Has anyone heard of this rare disease, or had any experience with pts or family members that have been diagnosed? Look forward to all responses, Jayne
