What are we objects? When he announced last night that he would be running for Governor again he said he was running again because "we need to create more ER Rooms, more hospitals, more nurses". I am all for more hospitals but you dont CREATE nurses. We are people!!!! It would also help to have more Nursing School Programs dont you think? There's a reason why there is a Nurse shortage and I think that a big part of it has to do with the fact that half of the people that want to become nurses are on a waiting list somewhere.
The way to get more young men and women into the profession has got to start with addressing working conditions, something Arnold is doing the opposite on. The long hours, backbreaking labor, lousy benefit packages, and rotten nurse to patient ratios are all just peachy to Mr. Bodybuilder. He honestly thinks he's going to throw a pittance toward nursing programs that are already short of qualified instructors and make a difference. Or he's going to go out of state and out of the country to find more warm bodies.
Pesonally, I'd like to see him follow any floor nurse around step for step for an average twelve hour shift. He'd be in a fetal position in a corner, sobbing hysterically, before lunch.
Maybe then it would dawn on him just what needs to be done to attract people to our profession.
What a good idea - I'd love to see that! I agree that something needs to be done about working conditions.

Exactly. Only, there's no problem attracting people to nursing, is keeping them in nursing once they find out what it's REALLY like.
arnold speaks pretty well for not having english as his native language. jump on him politically if you disagree with what he stands for or you are opposed to his actions, but not because he was gramatically incorrect. i have much respect for him. he is the american dream. look at where he started, and where he is now. pretty impressive, even if you don't like him.
I first got my R.N. license. There was a shortage of nurses then.
In about 1983 there was still a shortage and hospitals were laying off R.N.s.
For 28 years I have witnessed a constant in the profession, a shortage.
Today, I work as a clinical instructor for a LVN program. The main reason
we don't have a greater number of student's is we do not have enough
instructors. So, as far as I have been able to see this shortage has lasted
through more Republican administrations than Democrat. And' yes I too am
sick of those Hollywood types telling me what I need, especially Ronald
Ragan and Dennis Miller.

what a kind perspective - thanks.

If every immigrant to this country could be brought here by Joe Weeder
they would all live the American Dream. Given a job, place to live and
possibly all the pot he could smoke, let's not forget the steroids, and all
he had to do was lift weights and plug his sponsors product. He really worked hard to get ahead.

Please tell me you don't think Hollywoodians (I'm assuming actors and actresses?) are representative of the "everyday" people of the state of California. Please?
Wow, some of you guys hold some grudges against California.....geez. :chuckle
Anyway, having really expensive housing basically means that piece of real estate (the house is on...not to mention the utilities used to make a house a home) is in great demand or in a really "nice" area.
Back to the topic: Is there still alot of travel nurse trafficking in CA? My sister has been practicing there since January. First started in LA and hated, now in Oakland and hates it there too. From her stories it would be real nice right about now if we could just bake a batch of nurses and pop them out ready to work there.
