It's clear that the hosts of the view are poorly informed about what nurses do, and that they completely missed what was so great about Miss Colorado's monologue.

I've seen hundreds of comments from angry healthcare workers - both nurses and other professionals. Most have been appropriate.
But I've also read posts calling Michelle and her co-hosts "cows", ones that call her "butt ugly", and ones that even quip that her sex-reassignment surgery clearly had poor results.
Seriously? Shame on the ones that wrote those comments. They are doing NOTHING to promote nurses as professionals worthy of respect.
Please think before posting and commenting on sites like facebook and twitter (and here) with your feelings about what was said on The View. Your comments are a reflection on our profession and when posters sink to that level it only hurts the cause.
"Are we better than the hosts of the View"
Some of us are and some of us aren't. Some of us say exactly what we think, and some of us pretty it up for public consumption.
We are diverse. We are individuals. For every one of us that is offended, there are three of us who laugh.
I applaud Miss Colorado's choice of talent, but it's not typical. It's not mainstream. It's not what we're used to. Therefore it generated stupid commentary from bubbleheaded celebrities.
I love a world where Miss Colorado can be unique, and talk show hosts can be stupid.
Where we can say things that are absolutely awful, and somebody else can make us pay.
I even like, dare I say it, that there are people who think I'm just a nurse, and have the guts to say it out loud. Then I can squash them with why they should change their opinion.
I love free speech, because face it. The alternative just plain stinks.
I don't want to be in a world where everything has to be nice. Where every comment is measured. Where what we say is determined by who we're speaking to. I'm bad at nuance and subtle. I embrace plain speaking, and I know most people don't. Guess what? We get to co-exist.
I didn't watch the view today. Note small "v". I read where the hosts claim they were misunderstood. Hogwash. I would have liked them a lot better if they'd just said "I screwed up". "I was wrong". Or even better, "I stand by my comments".
Yay for free speech. Yay for being able to saying the wrong thing and being held accountable.
Lacking true ownership, the apology, such as it is, falls flat. I, personally, do not accept it.
But would I render my best care to any of these ladies in their time of need? You bet I would, just as I do bigots, homophobes, racists, and others who can't keep their stupid opinions to themselves. To do less would make me less than a real nurse. Cool heads have to prevail.
Taking cheap shots at a young RN is not cool. Today these women were angry about being called out on their crude behavior. They have offended a large demographic of 3 million RNs, 90% of those are female, and then tried to blame it on the audience's lack of comprehension. Big mistake.
This incident is not going to go away anytime soon. It is going to be a career ender for these comedians and actors. Just knowing how petty and mean they were to this young nurse makes never want to watch any
of their performances ever again.
eh, they made themselves look like fools on national television. I don't mind that they were ignorant, thats their problem. We are better than them in many aspects, and most of us have had a lot worse at bedside than what these ladies said. Most people will at some point be in the hospital either visiting a friend or as a pt, and when they do they always leave with a clearer picture of what nursing is like. They don't want to own up to their comments, so be it, thats something they will have to deal with. Frankly id be more offended by tv shows portraying doctors doing literally EVERYTHING.
I called them arrogant putzes on FB and I am not ashamed of it.
I don't mind Joy's comment so much. To me, she was obviously wondering why a pageant contestant was in scrubs and a stethoscope rather than a talent costume. The "doctor's" part is probably a reflection of her age and non-healthcare worker status.
But that other woman, the loud/obnoxious one, she stated that Miss Colorado's monologue sounded like she was "reading her email." Then she followed it up with, "it was hilarious," in that snarky tone that means "pathetic."
That's the one I have a problem with.
Then, today's "apology." That was a waste of time on their part. It might have been OK if Raven and Whoopi hadn't chimed in and basically said that nurses should listen better and that the comments should be taken the way they were intended.
Well, unfortunately, we did. That was the whole problem.
