  1. as everyone else said, it varies per place, policy , enforcement, culture etc. I go to music festivals and have worn the sweaters (nothing explicit on them, just the name of the festival and maybe a list of the performers) and have had no problems in my E.R., however when i did audits on the floors only one manager gave me a hard time, so i removed it as requested. Otherwise we have some nurses and doctors with sleeves and have had no problems either.
  2. left scrubtop pocket: 3 pens, stethoscope around my neck, vocera on scrub top. cell phone in my right front pants pocket, leatherman raptors on my waistband in its holster, chapstick in my left front pants pocket. All of my ER rooms are stocked with flushes, caps, alcohol wipes, gauze, etc so nurses have no need to keep anything on them beyond what i mentioned.
  3. the turkey sammies arent that bad, i just need them to start putting more than 1 packet of mustard in them. i need like 5
  4. to avoid this, ask the MD for a verbal for 500 units heparin flush once the patient arrives, that way you'll see it on your MAR until discharge. in addition, please please please be sure to flush first, then heparinize, and then De-access. because flushing after iv push is 2nd nature to us, please be conscious not to flush the heparin into the patient.
  5. we wont give you the answer here, if youd like help then please attempt and like coffee said, show your attempts, even if its incorrect. That way we can identify where you're going wrong. good luck.
  6. thanks, yea so my thinking leads it to its either she did not get it approved or staffing forgot to enter the switch into the computer, which is why i called the night before.
  7. hey guys, so i just want your opinion. I have a co-worker who requested me to work for her, i agreed, but did not get any email confirmation or text confirmation from our staffer which is typically the case. Evening before supposed switch when i was to work, i called staffing as my schedule did not reflect the request, staffing confirmed i am off. Now the person i was to work for was still on schedule. this will no doubt become a finger pointing and disciplinary issue. who do you guys think the liability rests upon? thanks - an overthinker
  8. some hospitals have uniforms for the nursing staff, they are embroidered with the hospital name, etc. other hospitals have you purchase your own scrubs
  9. congrats, but this needs to be moved to the NCLEX section under Students.
  10. that depends on you and your spending habits lol.
  11. leatherman raptor shears, pens, a good watch (i use my apple watch or g-shock), and danskos or something similar.
  12. No it typically went "oh wait sorry youre npo so you can't eat"
  13. Had told patients who were NPO that dinner would be coming soon.
  14. Like what klone said, typically EMRs will have a practice / tutorial program. Also why dont you sit with your preceptor to review your charting?
  15. This is not something we can answer or advise you on. You need to speak with your professor.
