  1. hi sorry stuck on another units question in my practice exam your pt who has a heparin infusion running, concentration 500units/ml. running at 3.5mls/hr. APTT returns and Dr has reduced infusion rate by 500units per hr. wt is the new infusion rate. can you please help me work this one out.
  2. Thanks Brad very much. will definitely look at your book.
  3. yes this defiently makes sense. but what nursing standard formula would you also use to help with these type of questions. because using the ml/hr formula didnt work? thank you very much for your help xxx
  4. yea did that. but still not getting it í ½í¸£
  5. Im completely stuck on this question and studying for med exam. I've used formula but im doing something wrong can anyone please guide me in the right direction. on admission to the ward Mr A is ordered a heparin infusion. The rate of infusion is 2ml/hr. APPT returns back low and therefore you must increase the unfusion by 250 units/hr. the syringe comes preprepared at a concentration of 25000 units of heparin in 50 ml syringe. what is the new rate in mls/hr of the infusion.
  6. Yes - my formula was SR./SS x V = 500x10=5000/ 5000 devide by 1000 = 5. 5ml is my answer but their answer is either a,95 b,90 c,100 d,50ml so I'm defiantly missing something in my working out.
  7. Jojo489 - I wouldn't of asked for help if I hadn't already tried working out the answer. I've got every other question right in the mock test and got this one wrong and the answer doesn't match up to my calculations and I have gone over and over it. I know it's maybe as simple as 1,2,3 and again I'm not asking for the answer just help with the formula to see if I have been on the right track and maybe their answer is wrong I don't know.
  8. I need help please working out how to answer this question. I'm happy for not being given the answer but a solution of working this out PLEASE. I have exam end of the week. Your pt is prescribed Ampicillin 500mg IVI q6h as prophylactic antibiotic cover post operatively. Ampicillin is reconstituted within 10ml sterile water for injection. Ampicillin is diluted to 100ml of 0.9 norm saline IVI and infused over 30min AU stock, 1000ml Ampicillin vial (powder) reconstituted the Ampicillin power with 10ml sterile water for injection. This makes a reconstituted strength of 1000mg/10ml. calculate total vol of fluid in pt burette.
