It's clear that the hosts of the view are poorly informed about what nurses do, and that they completely missed what was so great about Miss Colorado's monologue.

I've seen hundreds of comments from angry healthcare workers - both nurses and other professionals. Most have been appropriate.
But I've also read posts calling Michelle and her co-hosts "cows", ones that call her "butt ugly", and ones that even quip that her sex-reassignment surgery clearly had poor results.
Seriously? Shame on the ones that wrote those comments. They are doing NOTHING to promote nurses as professionals worthy of respect.
Please think before posting and commenting on sites like facebook and twitter (and here) with your feelings about what was said on The View. Your comments are a reflection on our profession and when posters sink to that level it only hurts the cause.
She is entitled to her own opinion, but not to her own facts. Questioning the nurse wearing a "doctor's stethocscope" was not expression of opinion, but evidence of an amazing ignorance of facts.I understood that nurses use stethoscopes long before I ever set foot in a nursing school. I may not have known exactly what they were assessing, but I knew at least that much. Someone of Joy Behar's age has undoubtedly interfaced with nursing staff before. Her comment was astoundingly ignorant, mean-spirited, and inappropriately judgmental.
Additionally, in the "apology" video, she states that she didn't know Miss Colorado was a nurse, when her whole monologue was "I'm just a nurse."
And she says that her son-in-law is a PA and her niece is a nurse. So she should know better.
I saw what the hosts said on the view originally and in response to the anger the next day. Both days were inappropriate. I am angry. However, not one of my comments were unprofessional to the public world. Yes, I have seen some comments that make us look just as bad or worse than the view ever did. Although, they were like a needle in a haystack and only two or three out of 500 or more on the area I was reading. Also, you do not even know if that is a nurse saying that unless they specifically call themselves by that name. Anyone can post stuff in that forum.
Shame on the view. Shame on them for making the mistake. Double shame on them for bringing the issue back up, giving an insincere apology, and turning the responsibility for their actions back onto the viewers stating, "You have to listen for what we are really saying." No. Whether they were commenting on a beauty pageant talent competition or not, their comments were inappropriate and disrespectful. In addition, the poem/monologue that Miss Colorado performed was very good, well spoken, and had heart in the content. Her performance should be applauded. She ended up finishing either runner-up or second runner-up, I think.
There's also that old adage to consider, "There's no such thing as bad publicity." Is it possible that this woman said something outrageous with the intention of getting people to tune in to the show? Because, if she did, it worked.
I honestly doubt that these people have that kind of foresight.
I honestly do not care what Joy Behar thinks. The one good thing that has come from this is starting a discussion about what nurses really do - besides heat up your soup.
Today the hosts of the view are saying that their comments were taken out of context, misconstrued and that the nurses didn't listen to the conversation. No, that is what they did to Miss Colorado.
I'm reminded of something Ellen DeGeneris said a few years ago: "For something to be truly funny, everybody in the room should be laughing. If you have to follow up what you've said with 'Just kidding', you aren't."
Any time someone says "I was taken out of context" my first thought is, no, we heard you perfectly and you meant what you said. You just got caught being a butt-head, and you're trying to deflect criticism.
There's a saying the ladies of The View would be wise to remember: "Better to stay quiet and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
Today the hosts of the view are saying that their comments were taken out of context, misconstrued and that the nurses didn't listen to the conversation and get the intention of their comments. No, that is what they did to Miss Colorado.
The intention of their comments was to make fun of someone and make themselves look cool. What did we miss?
Some of the posts, hashtags, and pictures on Facebook are out of control. They make nurses look really bad and unprofessional.Check out the group: "Show me your Stethoscope" for more details.
Some of the posts:
1. "I'm not saying I hate you but I'd unplug your vent to charge my cellphone."
2. "Scrubbing in to remove Joy Behar's head from her a**. Proud RN"
3. #iwillstrangleyouwithmystethoscopelady
I completely agree that there have been some very inappropriate comments seen on FB. However, I have to say that there are more supportive, thoughtful, and professional comments than otherwise, and I have to say that it is nice to see nurses united rather than divided over such an important subject as our professional image.
