I went to nursing school and was a CNA in Maine, and we always called hospital gowns "johnnies". When I got my first job out of school at a hospital in NC, I sure got some curious looks when I asked people where the clean johnnies were kept, usually they thought I was talking about a commode...hehehe
Anyway, my sister is in nursing school back home and we were chatting about this today, I was wondering exactly how regional of a term it is?

Never heard the term Johnnies before. But I know that I worked at one place where we called the bed pads "quilted pads" and then I've heard them called Hampton pads elsewhere. Probably just a regonal or facility thing.

We don't call them johnnies in WI either. As far as the pads go, we have disposable pads we call "chux" or "pup pads". Some patients think it's funnier to call them puppy pads, but some REALLY do not. Haha. Are those pretty common terms?

I'm in Maine and the term "johnnies" is still going strong. That's what we called them in Nova Scotia too. Maybe it's a northeast thing. If they don't call them johnnies, what do they say?

I've heard the term "johnnies" before but we don't use it here in CA. We just call them gowns.
I bought some real puppy pads for house training and was surprised that they are just little chux. Funny . . .

We dont say "johnnies" here and I work in Maryland.
Our bed pads (the thicker, reusable kind) we call pink pads (one side is quilted white and the other is pink). We don't use the blue chux/chucks... Our unit doesnt allow them r/t skin breakdown issues

I work as a nurse in the Texas Department of Corrections and a sandwich is often refered to as a "johnnie". I am not sure why though.

Actually, the brown bag meals that are sometimes served to inmates in the Tx prison system are called "johnny sacks" as a whole. Man, I wonder how many thousands of johnny sacks I passed out over 14 years.
I worked as a correctional officer and supervisor at 6 or 7 different units in TDCJ-ID, everything from ad seg to mental health and MROP.
Miss is sometimes.
