Published

I dont mean to sound negative but did anybody move to TX because of more job opportunities and having difficulty with finding jobs or becuase of different regulations or whatever reasons regret moving to TX?

There are more labor unions and state regulations on the workforce. It is much harder for a hospital to let go of a union employee. Texas is an "at will work state" this means employees can quit when you want with no recourse BUT it also means that employers can let you go when they want with no legal recourse.

More labor unions in Texas?

We have some safety labor laws, child labor laws and such but as far as workforce regulations, I'd say they overwhelmingly favor the business and not the employee. There is only one hospital system I've heard of in the area that has a nursing union, and those nurses fought an uphill battle to get it in place.

Texas is not a 'labor union' kind of state, compared to others.

Yep everyday...sorry really don't mean to offend but I really am regretting moving here more and more every day.... so far away from anything that I know

I know no one; have no friends, and really no way to go back to Ohio where I am from.

Not to mention that I have no one to ask or network with to find good employment, college, education, areas to live...you name it I am out here in this big state wondering around realizing everyday how much I truly dislike it here. :crying2::bluecry1::uhoh21:

you have to look at these posts are from people who moved from liberal CA to conservative TX! Don't just look at the jobs that are available - you have to look at your own personal value system and determine if it fits with the local culture. i live in IA and miss the true conservatism of TX. You also have to look at the culture of the facility you are going to work for - the difference between Keizer-P and Houston medical are astounding!

I lived in Houston for all my adult life and now been in Misssippi for 2 years and I have mixed feelings.. I want to come back but the job market is very tight.. so I have to stay put until I can find something I want to do. Although the job market is tight i have heard you can find a job maybe not your speciality but you can find one..

Houston has the best eating establishments bar none.. I miss it..and there is so much to do..

I have a friend who moved from Seattle to Houston and preferred Houston. I'm really curious how anyone can prefer Houston (not the best scenery, too hot to go outside 6 months out of the year, horrible highways) to Seattle? I agree we have a great med center and good cost of living.. (okay, NASA pretty cool too).. I donno.. my heart just isn't here (enough though it's been "home" almost as long as I can remember).
