Yep, we definitely get snow in DFW. And Amarillo area gets pounded with snow. DFW gets ice storms more often than snow, which is worse. Not pretty, just debilitating and destructive and a city that has no way of dealing with it.

Does anyone know where in Texas is the best place to look for a job? ...for a new grad RN (ADN), working on BSN.

What parts are the nicest weather wise...not humid? And where would someone want to live if they were liberal?

I am hoping to move to northern Texas in Jan of this year, and I can hardly wait!!! I have spent lots of time in Texas, so I am pretty sure I know what I am getting into. I ride horses, and Texas is the HORSE CAPITAL. I am super excited about being able to ride year round, and I would die happy if I never saw another snowflake again!! I am just hoping that I can find an ICU job and a little land for my horses.

It's so funny because I see in movies and TV shows Texas being portrayed as this place where people ride their horses to work practically.. but in my 30+ years here, I've never ridden a horse and don't see them much outside of running on a ranch as I drive by. lol

When I think of horse riding states Montana comes to mind instead. lol

Anything along the Texas coast would be out of the question if you don't like humidity. The whole state has the nasty summer heat though.. although the northernmost part of the state has cooler winters.

Edited to add: If you want liberal, Austin is probably your best bet. Austin is a young, liberal town.. it's really kind of a world of its own.. and beautiful hill country out that way! It gets hot but not nearly as humid there in the summers. If I had to live my life out in Texas.. that is the direction I'd go.

Austin is pretty much the only liberal place in Texas. It is also one of the toughest job markets. Very unlikely to find new grad work there. Your best bet if you want work in TX as a new grad is the border and small towns. The metropolitan areas and major cities are saturated with new grads already.

I lived close to Austin for about a year. It is a great place to be especially if you are single. So much to do!!!:p

I am working in my second nursing job. I have never had a problem getting a job. I have had several job offers... I'm not lying here. Waco/Temple, Austin, and Tyler are where I got the most job offers from.

I just moved here from CA 2 months ago. The state is falling apart and I grew tired of watching the slow motion train wreck. I grew up there but my parents are both southerners and my siblings and I were raised with southern values.

So far, I really like it here. Really pleased with the cost of living, tolerable weather. When the heat comes back, I'll stay indoors! (I didn't live along the coast, so not a huge difference.) Still looking for work but it's tough since I don't really know anyone yet. I left the bedside a few years ago and my most recent specialty normally requires a BSN and I'm and ADN so that has come back to bite me. If I had it to do again, I would not change my plans. Once I find work, I'm sure I will like it even more.
