Anatomy & Physiology Fall 2008

Published

Several had mentioned starting a study thread early so we could get prepared for our fall A&P class, so here goes. I have gathered several websites from both here and on my own, so wanted to post them early on so that we wouldn't have to search for them. Please feel free to add to them and also any advice or study tactics that seem to work for you.

Thankyou to Eveyone here at AllNurses who have provided so much information in one spot.

Ok, that's it for tonight....I have several others but hopefully this will keep everyone busy for a day or 2 :chuckle:yeah:I'm sure we all have diferent study habits and will need to find our own way there but I am hoping we can work together as a study team.

Maybe each day or two, someone could provide a study tip or an mneumonics for memorization for tissues or nerves, anything that is helping you learn. Or if you come accross somethin that you can't use, maybe someone else can.

 OFF to Bed for me

Hi everyone! I hope everything is going well for all of you as you journey through A&P I. Some of you might remember that I already had my first quiz and made an A. Well, it turns out that everyone except me and one other person in my class FAILED... meaning received a D or F! So my instructor is not counting that quiz. I am very upset because I worked really hard studying for that to get off on the right foot in this class. Oh well, water under the bridge I guess.

Anyway, my first test is tomorrow. I've been studying like CRAZY for the past week and ALL DAY today because I didn't have class today. I feel like I am really understanding everything so that is positive I guess. I'm just worried because I haven't yet taken a test with this instructor, so I don't know how extensively he covers the material on the test or if his study guides and notes cover everything he wants us to know for the test. I am reading the book and taking notes on that as well, but I fear it won't be enough! I always worry before the first test in ANY class but especially this one because I need a good grade so badly. Plus I really really want to get started in this class with good grades... I thought that I was on a roll with my quiz but now that it doesn't count, I am back to square one with this test. Does anyone else get this nervous before a first test??? I always do, no matter what the class is, no matter how prepared I feel.

Anyway, this is just me venting. I hope everyone else is doing well! Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I am taking my test tomorrow! Here's hoping that my hours of studying are enough!

Just had our second written and practicals test on tissues and the integumentary system. Not too difficult! On to the skeletal system next -- I have a feeling it's going to be a lot more involved!

Hi Gemini,

I actually like the long class, the lab was very interesting and we actually got out at 1 but I went straight to the library, since I have a babysitter until 2 I figure I should use the rest of the time to study. Chemistry is going well, I have some questions tonight about density, but for the most part I feel very ready for my quiz on Thursday. I had a couple of arguments with my scientific calculator, but I think we are seeing eye to eye now. Anywho, good luck to you in A&P I am sure you will do well. My first exam is in 2 ½ weeks. I feel great on chapter 1, I just finished reading chapter 4 and am getting ready to make my flashcards as soon as I am sure I understand the levels of connective tissues. We are going over that in the next class. I also have to start integumentary next, hopefully I can get through that also.

So before I make my flashcards on tissues can someone please tell me if I understand connective tissues right. There is connective tissue proper and supportive connective tissue.

Under connective tissue proper there can be loose (areolar) or loose connective tissue/inflammation (adipose, reticular) and Dense connective tissue (irregular or regular).

Under supportive there is osseous tissue (compact or cancellous) or cartilage (hyaline, elastic, fibrocarilage).

Is that right? Thanks. We haven't gone over it in lecture yet, but I would like to have a good understanding before Saturday.

I'm looking for a site where I can download blank images of the bones so I can practice when I'm not at the computer. Anybody know of one? TIA

Hey all, I know we were previously talking about where to buy skeletons and such. I found a website that sells anatomical models at pretty good prices - it's www.anatomical.com . I know it's no $20 Big Lots skeleton, but I tried! ;)

That breakdown is pretty helpful. Thanks will definitely use!

Specializes in ER, OB.

Hello, hope everyone is doing good so far. I am taking A&P 1. I just wanted to post the webpage we have for my class it might be useful for some of you. It has real pictures of the lab models if you have the same lab models it's really helpful. Here are also powerpoints that she goes through in class. Hope you find it helpful. Good Luck everyone. 203 is the first A&P 204 is the second.

I had my first test yesterday! I think I did all right... I'm hoping for at least a B but we will see. It was not nearly as bad as I had anticipated. I will know what I made on it tomorrow! Wish me luck!!!

Hi,

Connective tissue proper: (loose CT, dense CT (regular and irregular), reticular CT, elastic CT, collagenous CT & adipose tissue)

Specialized connective tissue: blood, bone & cartilage

Hope this helps -- we just tested on that chapter in Hole's A&P, but it sounds like your book may be different?!

I'm really bumbed. Failed my first lab test and lecture. More than anything, I freaked out and couldn't remember a lot of the terms. Using Marieb text book. Anyone out there using that book and could help me out with study tips? I can use a lot of help. My professor isn't very good at explaining. Really down right now. Thx.

woooooo just got a 94 on the first lecture test :D
