Anatomy & Physiology Fall 2008

Published

Several had mentioned starting a study thread early so we could get prepared for our fall A&P class, so here goes. I have gathered several websites from both here and on my own, so wanted to post them early on so that we wouldn't have to search for them. Please feel free to add to them and also any advice or study tactics that seem to work for you.

Thankyou to Eveyone here at AllNurses who have provided so much information in one spot.

Ok, that's it for tonight....I have several others but hopefully this will keep everyone busy for a day or 2 :chuckle:yeah:I'm sure we all have diferent study habits and will need to find our own way there but I am hoping we can work together as a study team.

Maybe each day or two, someone could provide a study tip or an mneumonics for memorization for tissues or nerves, anything that is helping you learn. Or if you come accross somethin that you can't use, maybe someone else can.

 OFF to Bed for me

Hey everyone! I'm just starting my A&P I pre-req...started last night to be exact! I look forward to meeting you all and helping each other through this class!:D

American beauty.... First off.... Don't change answers!! Unless you are 100% sure you know that you made a mistake.... Alot of time you will find the answer in a later question, but otherwise go with your gut.....

Have confidence in yourself!!!..... As you said, you knew the stuff in your study group..... So you need to go into the test knowing (thinking to yourself) "I know this stuff" and that will reduce your text anxiety 95%.

Know first and formost that your instructor isn't going to test you on stuff that hasn't been covered, and then know that you have studied it, so therefore, you are going to do well on the test......... Think like a "winner"

Otherwise, we have covered upto Chapter 7 which is skeletal....... I think all the books pretty much go in order..... So If I can be of any assistance let me know........

J.Q.

ORnurse, I found the bones at Big Lots but Party City has them as well....these bones are not as fancy as the lab bones but they will do the trick. Any store carrying Halloween stuff should have them....Good Luck

I agree, if you put an anwser down, don't change it unless you are absoulutely correct it is wrong...I'll sometimes mark an anwser and if I am unsure, I will put a small ? beside it and come back to it at the end of the exam....then I will review it in my head and only change the anwser if I am absolutely sure it's wrong.

Our first quiz is next Tues...anatomical terms and tissues....I also have a Chem exam right before it....ugh! First respiratory exam in the am

I had my first lab practicle on Tuesday. I got 8/15, wich is a big fat F. There was only one question that I fully got wrong (saying the epidermis is superior to the dermis when it was supposed to be superficial.) The other ones were spelling errors or I didn't answer it exactly the right way (like I said pseudostratified columnar epithelial tissue, and I was supposed to say ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelial tissue).

Our fist lecture exam is today. It's a lot of material inluding what was lectured on yesterday.

Wow, this is great - thanks!!!! I'm taking this class now and nutrition.

BIG BONE TEST tomorrow!.......

Hey Posh girl, sorry about the grade. Do you think it's you or the teacher? The reason I ask is because I honestly believe that anyone brave enough to take on a&p is smart enough to get through the class.

I guess if you know what you did wrong on the test and can prepare for it the next time, you'll do just fine.

Good luck on the lecture test... we're all rooting for you!!

:up::up:

I've got my first test on Tuesday! I am truly nervous because we were reviewing in class yesterday and I did NOT remember as much as I thought I would! It is just a basic review of bio and chem, the first three chapters of the book, but for some reason I can't get certain things to stick in my brain! Luckily my instructor puts these amazing outlines online so we have easy ways to remember all the stuff. I'm starting to think that I make this stuff so complicated for myself when really it is easy. I dunno. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers... you are certainly all in mine! Good luck to all of us who have tests coming up!

This is a reply to the student who was asking what to expect on the muscle lab practical...sorry, but for some reason I can't find the original post. Anyway, for our muscle exam we had to be able to identify 60 muscles on the models (or on our poor dissected cat), name the muscle, name the origin, name the insertion, and name the actions.

The muscle lab practical was by far the most difficult one, but it is probably different for each instructor. Once I got through that exam the rest was a lot easier in comparison...especially the practicals for A&P II.

GOOD LUCK...you can do it! My advise to you is to make flashcards and take them everywhere with you. I also re-grouped the muscles based on shared characteristics, such as all the muscles that internally rotate the hip, or all the muscles that originate on the os coxa, or all the muscles that adduct the wrist, etc... This really helped me get a big-picture view of muscles...for some reason, re-organizing info works really well for me.

Let us know how you do!

Hey Posh girl, sorry about the grade. Do you think it’s you or the teacher? The reason I ask is because I honestly believe that anyone brave enough to take on a&p is smart enough to get through the class.

I guess if you know what you did wrong on the test and can prepare for it the next time, you’ll do just fine.

Good luck on the lecture test… we’re all rooting for you!!

On the lab practicle I actually answered most of the questions right, but I missed the spellings on a couple. I also mixed up the eccrine and sebacious gland on a slide.

On our lecture exam I got an 84. I missed a lecture because of an accident on the freeway (ended up sitting in traffic for over an hour). I got someone else's notes and recopied them, but it didn't stick for whatever reason. It was the stuff that I missed in that lecture that killed me.

I think I'll get my grade back up. I have exactly 80% right now. In order to get an A we need 450+ out of 500 points. So far I am down 23 points. If I really work at it I think I can manage to get through the rest of the class without missing more than 27 points.

Our next exam is a lab practicle on Wednesday. It is bones. I feel pretty good about it already.

hey everyone, well my first lecture test was today!!! i think i did good, dunno about an a but definately no lower than a b! (i hope lol) she said she probably won't get all the grades out til monday, so i'm really bummed that i have to wait all weekend to see how i did! but i did look online and saw that the class average was a 64!!! ouch, hopefully this isn't one of those instances where you think you do good and then you get your score and you totally bombed the test!!! i think i would die!

we have our lab practical on bones monday the 15th, i feel so unprepared because i've been spending all my time trying to study for this test!!! :/ hopefully i'll be able to catch up on it this weekend! well hope all of you have a great weekend, good luck to all of you!
