  1. So you are allowed to fill out your FASFA now without any issues?
  2. Hello all!! It's been a while since I posted on allnurses! Anyhow, I came home in the morning on the 20th after a night shift at a crisis center where I work, checked the mail, and got my acceptance letter!! PMHNP program!! Been a Psych nurse for 3 years now and absolutely LOVE my job. I think all the PMHNP guys/gals should get into contact with each other, after all, we are all classmates now!!
  3. I can definitely relate to what humpty is saying. It is almost impossible to get all the assigned readings done! Just impossible. You have to sort of extrapolate from the assigned reading what you think the professors want you to know or concentrate on. However, weekly quizzes sort of force you to keep up with readings, so that’s that. Definitely brush up before tests! Also blueprints for tests I’ve found are sort of fifty-fifty, hit or miss. Some professors are really specific about what they want you to concentrate on and some are very vague, like “study chapter 48.” And you come to find that chapter 48 is like 40 or 50 pages long! As far as math is concerned, yes there is math but very little of it. Dosage calculations and IV flow rates. Knowing your conversions is a must. I would say that there are around 2 or 3 questions dealing with a math problem like dosage calculation out of a total of about 50 questions on a test. Hope this helps.

that's exactly how i felt too!!!! :dncgbby::stdnrsrck: :nmbrn:
  5. Classes for my accelerated BSN program starts June 1st so this thread is really helping out a brother! Thanks a lot ya’ll!!
  6. Well I start in the summer, does that count:plsebeg:? June 1st to be exact! Texas A&M Corpus Christi! Go Islanders:rckn:!! How many on here can say that their school is located on an island!:dncgbby: :mnnnrsngrk:
  7. Now I don’t know anything about UNM since I’m in Texas but believe me when I tell you this, your GPA is just FINE!!! You’re going to have students with better GPA than you and students with worse GPA than you. That’s just a fact. Now that being said, if there are any classes that you got a C in and think that you could do better if you took it again, TAKE IT! It shows that you improved and it bumps up your GPA as well. Trust me you have a very good GPA. Now if your GPA was under 3.0 then I would say that you might have something to worry about since most nursing schools usually require a GPA of 3.0 or better. But since it’s not, then you don’t. Don’t stress yourself over something you have no decision over like being admitted. Just apply and hope for the best.
  8. Congrats to you! Wow Baylor, nice:bowingpur! I too found out that I got in as well 3 weeks ago! Just like you I’m a first time applicant and only applied to only one school. Guess we’re either very smart or very lucky!
  9. Thank you all so much! Paco386, I know exactly how you feel. I literally was in the same shoes as you were this time last year. I remember starting my prerequisites summer 08 and thinking that I have such a long way to go and now a year later, here I am! You’ll get there soon enough! Once again, thank you all!!
  10. I have only been accepted for an accelerated BSN program but I really don’t know honestly. I’m really intrigued with an OR nurse position, but I fear that being in the OR all the time will make me want to pursue CRNA even more. I guess if I’m comfortable with my salary at the time and really just feel happy, then I’ll just call it a career in the OR as an RN.
  11. I have a question about becoming an operating room nurse. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but you usually have to have some kind of certification to be an OR nurse right? Now I know that some people have gotten really lucky and landed an OR gig right after they graduated but I'm not counting on luck. I know that some community colleges offer programs for nurses who want to work in the OR. This program is also in line with a surgical tech program. However surgical tech programs are usually one year long (at least those in my side town) so does that mean that after graduation, I have to attend this program for one whole year before I can work in the OR? How are people doing it? Thanks.
  12. Hey guys and gals, but mostly from a male point of view, I'm about to start an accelerated BSN program in June 1st. What lessons did you learn the hard way in your first few months that could really help out a newbie? They say it's the small things that matter but I'm also looking for the big things as well. So if you could do over you first day, month, or even semester, what would you do or have done differently?
  13. Don’t you mean, you go man?! I guess I’d better get used to that. :chuckle:DThat’s right, a future male nurse here:smokin:, and hoping to help set the bar for the rest of the males who are sure to follow in my footsteps. Thanks anyway!
  14. Thanks ya’ll, keep it coming! Seriously, thanks all!
  15. Finally, I just checked the mail 20 minutes ago and I just received my acceptance letter:D!! I've been accepted into the accelerated BSN program at Texas A&M in Corpus Christi!!! :yeah:The program is 18 months long. Classes star June 1st! My hands were literally shaking when I saw their letter; I then threw the rest of the mail down and tore their letter open to see the good news!! Thanks to all who have hung in there with me in solidarity! And to all of you who are still waiting, I'm still in waiting with you as well and wishing you all the best; your letter is coming too. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:chuckle:chuckle:chuckle
