  1. i definitely agree. you absolutely have to love a certain aspect of nursing. i understand that some people rely on just their passion for nursing to get them through the pre-reqs, not their passion for science. i think that is a good thing. but for me, if i really hated science i don't think i would consider nursing. everyone is different though, as you said.
  2. Lol. I was not saying that people should be EXCITED for A&P, but if they can't tolerate taking the class, I don't understand why they would want to be a nurse. That's all I'm saying. I definitely understand getting grossed out by things and get bored on occasion, but really, it's all some people do. I had a friend that wanted to be an X-ray tech but didn't because she hated science. If you hate science, why would you want to be an X-ray tech? Lol. I'm not a fan of math, AT ALL, but I don't complain about having to learn it because I know I will need it as a nurse and it's not the main part of the curriculum, science is.
  3. First off I just want to say a big CONGRATS to everyone who got in for Fall!!!!!! You guys must be SO thrilled! I am applying for Fall 2009 as well, but I will not know if I am accepted until July! Those of you who will not know until March, I am envious! Lol. It's a looong time to wait but I know it will be worth it. Hopefully I will have a very happy post here in July! Best of luck, everyone!
  4. Pre-nursing students who complain about having to take A&P! I understand it's a lot of work and can be very challenging due to the large scope of information we have to know in a limited amount of time. But people that say things like "This stuff is so boring." or "This grosses me out." confuse me! If you don't have any interest in the human body or it grosses you out, why would you choose a profession like nursing? Maybe someone can enlighten me...
  5. I agree that rudeness is the norm these days. If you think that's bad, you will never believe what happened in my Chemistry class. Someone fell asleep AND STARTED SNORING really loudly in class! It was sooooo awkward! The rest of us were trying to act like it wasn't happening but at the same time it was so obvious. I felt awful for the teacher. People can be so rude.
  6. Yay! I'm not alone! :yeah:Haha. Sorry it took me so long to reply... I just remembered I made this thread. I am currently taking A&P2, Micro, Psych, and Human Growth. Those are the only other pre-reqs I need so I will be taking the Summer off.:onbch: I just took the NAT Tuesday and I did pretty well. If you still haven't taken it, it's easy. And I'm going to take my CPR class sometime soon. Thank goodness there is someone else here for Fall '09! I was thinking I was the only one.
  7. I am taking: Anatomy & Physiology II w/ lab General Psychology Microbiology w/ lab Human Growth and Development I :heartbeat all my classes!!!!!
  8. Thanks so much you guys!
  9. Okay, I have to tell you I always thought it was so odd for people to say they "passed" an aptitude test and vowed to never use the term myself. But when I took it I thought "What else am I gonna say?" I mean "passed" is shorter than "got a really high score on". Plus I didn't even know if that would fit in the subject line. :chuckle So I just did it anyway. :chuckle Thanks for the congratualtions!!! It seems as though some are in order for you as well. 98th percentile on natural sciences?!?!?!?!? I am in awe of you! Great job!
  10. I took the NAT today and it was soooooo stressful (the time constraints and whatnot) but I passed! I got 99th percentile on academic aptitude, 96th on reading comprehension, and 91st on natural sciences!!!!!! Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know how I felt about it. I know a lot of you are worrying, so I will do my best to ease the worries. I didn't do a study guide or anything by the way, so obviously it's pretty easy overall. Natural sciences is VERY straighforward. If you have taken A&P and Chem you should be fine. Little to no Micro on it. Most of the questions are A&P/health related. Reading comp is a bit tough. The pasages are long and there is not too much time in that section. For me, I am a slow reader so it was hard to read fast AND have to answer the questions fast. But you can refer back to the passage. Overall the questions were easy, but completing it in a timely manner was a problem for me. Academic aptitude was easy. Trust me, I barely passed any high school or college math class, but that math was EASY! When they say eighth grade, they really mean third. :chuckle The rest of the questions besides math are either pick the word that means something different or blank is to blank as blank is to blank. And those to me are pretty easy for the most part. There are some really big words on the vocabulary part though, so if you don't feel comfortable with that you may want to review. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the test. If anyone has anymore questions feel free to ask!!!
  11. first of all, thank you so much for the advice. especially about just guessing if you don't know, that helped on the reading comprehension part a lot. to me, that was the section that was the most pressed for time. i was in the 99th percentile for academic aptitude, 96th for reading comprehension, and 91st for natural sciences!!!!! my raw score is 176 so by my calculations i will have around 112 points on my application from the nat. i am sooo relieved!!! i was only thinking i would have around 90 points from it, and then i would kind of be cutting it close... but now i should have at least 190 total which is my personal cut-off lol. any less and i will retake a class during the semester i am applying in case i don't get in. i will most likely surpass 190, but you never know. just having it over with takes a load off my mind lol. okay, just wanted to say thanks and let everyone know how i did. now i gotta go study for my blood test in a&p 2 tomorrow. :chuckle such is life as a nursing/pre-nursing student...
  12. thanks! are you trying to get in fall '09 too? is the nat super hard? lol. i'm veeeeery anxious. good luck to you as well! i85.5 points is pretty solid, you should be okay.
  13. I'm not a waiter yet but I will be this Summer! Just wanted to pop in and tell everyone GOOD LUCK! I know you guys can do it. :wink2:
  14. So yesterday I was talking to a good friend of mine, also doing pre-reqs. She's not in school this semester for a number of reasons. Basically, she has had a really rough year academically. She was counting up how many classes she has left to take and realized that if she doesn't have to repeat any courses and gets in on her first try (which is not very likely), she will be starting nursing school after I'm done. She was really upset about it. I felt horrible!!!! Here I am, complaining about how much studying I have to do, when she doesn't even have the luxury of attending school right now! I just feel like I'm taking it for granted. I will be starting in Fall. She may not even be back in school by then. I feel like it will be the same in nursing school. I will be so overwhelmed with the work that I won't remember how desperately I want to be there. Does anyone else have similar problems??? I'm glad this happened though, I have renewed enthusiasm for studying!
  15. Thanks for the info. I take the NAT tomorrow... I'm so nervous! :chuckle It's my first time taking it. At least I will have some idea of about how many points I will have for that. Some girl also told me they aren't allowing the up to 20 points for medical experience. Is that true?? I don't care because I don't have any but she has been a CNA for a while and seemed really peeved that they weren't counting that anymore. She sounded pretty certain but that was the first I ever heard about it. But like I said if they are, that just makes it easier for me lol.
