  1. to the OP: did you take chemistry and biology in high school and within the past 5 years? if so, you're good to go as far as taking A&P I. the high school courses are pre-requisites to taking A&P I. http://floridastatecollegecatalog.fscj.edu/content.php?catoid=11&navoid=5#acalog_template_course_filter if you scroll down to BSC 2085C - Human Anatomy and Physiology I, there is more info.
  2. your best bet is to go to the guidance office at your local campus. information changes from term to term, so the guidance office *should* have current info on what is needed. when i was switching majors i consulted with a guidance counselor who gave me information on the nursing program. they should have an information pamphlet on the nursing program, that is actually compiled by the nursing department. it includes what classes are counted and info on the NAT.
  3. wow, there are section 14's now?! craziness.
  4. everything... for extra practice if your instructor doesn't think your technique isn't good enough... LOL. can you tell i'm bitter? lord knows my happy butt was sent to the lab... ahh yes, lab on top of adult health 1. 'twas fun...
  5. i disagree, if you're a good apple, you'll use your skills kit to practice above and beyond the lab hours they want you to put in BEFORE the simulation! i wish i had done that... it will bite you in the orifice in adult health 1 if you don't practice. adult health 1 is really the only time you get to become really confident in your skills, beyond that you are expected to know what you are doing (well, you're expected to know what you're doing on the floor, but i hope you get what i mean, haha). techniques was total BS, maybe because of the instructor or hospital i went to; the only thing we got to do was pass meds, maybe give a subq or IM injection... otherwise, it was just CNA work.
  6. yeah, waiting for the letter and getting it IS the easy part, lol. and then you start running around like a chicken with its head cut off and become broke in the process...
  7. baptist south actually isnt the newest anymore... mayo just opened a brand new facility in april. the baptist health care system is transitioning to computer charting; last i heard BMC beaches was going to go paperless this summer. nassau i believe is paperless and downtown too. i also think all the baptist hospitals are magnet status (so usually the nurses have higher job satisfaction, better pay, lower ratios): http://www.nursecredentialing.org/magnet/index.html orange park medical center and memorial hospital are sister hospitals and both are for-profit facilities.
  8. hey, i got in with only 186... this was without sociology. :)
  9. yep, you are correct about first term clinicals not starting until week 8. i'm not sure how they are making first termers do care plans these days, but we had to pick up pt information the day before clinicals and then work on care plans that night. second term, you go twice a week from 7-3. the day before first day of clinicals, you pick up pt. information and do half of your care plan. the night before the second day of clinicals, you formulate nursing diagnoses. there ARE 12 hr shifts for third term!!! i believe you have the choice of doing one 12 hr a week, or two eight hours a week. i have friends in OB and peds doing 12 hr shifts.
  10. yeah, i got my acceptance letter two days before my birthday, and it was the best present ever at the time, haha.
  11. i applied for fall 2007 and got my acceptance letter the first week of july...
  12. hmm... i guess i will butt into this post. i may be joining you guys come second semester psych nursing. i started in fall 2007, but dropped out due to moving to washington. i hope to re-enter spring 2009. good luck with everything, guys. if you have any questions about first semester, feel free to ask me :)
  13. love my littman classic II s.e. !! i paid around $100 for it, but it's worth every penny. my school prefers that we have a steth with a bell and diaphragm, so i got the classic II -- better than the cheapo ones sold at the school, and not as expensive as the cardiology steths. :)
  14. i've seen SJRCC students at memorial hospital in jax... yeah i know that's a way's to go, lol, but just fyi looks like they don't just stick to OPMC!
  15. i actually stopped by the worksource center at fccj south campus and they gave me a sheet about tuition assistance for nursing students. it said... you must meet the following criteria: - be accepted into the core nursing program (your proof is the admittance letter) - have a 3.0 or better GPA average - must demonstrate need by completing financial aid process (FAFSA) AND meet one of the following: - be an adult making less than $25.00/hour - dislocated worker (unemployed) - have a dependent child or children living in the household under the age of 18 and meet low income guidelines. if you said YES to any of the questions above, you may be eligible for tuition assitance through worksource. i have the names and numbers of the people who do further screening for baker, clay, nassau, and duval counties. i don't think i'm allowed to post them, so if you want them, send me a private message.
