Several had mentioned starting a study thread early so we could get prepared for our fall A&P class, so here goes. I have gathered several websites from both here and on my own, so wanted to post them early on so that we wouldn't have to search for them. Please feel free to add to them and also any advice or study tactics that seem to work for you.
Thankyou to Eveyone here at AllNurses who have provided so much information in one spot.

Ok, that's it for tonight....I have several others but hopefully this will keep everyone busy for a day or 2 :chuckle:yeah:I'm sure we all have diferent study habits and will need to find our own way there but I am hoping we can work together as a study team.
Maybe each day or two, someone could provide a study tip or an mneumonics for memorization for tissues or nerves, anything that is helping you learn. Or if you come accross somethin that you can't use, maybe someone else can.
OFF to Bed for me
Thanks a million for replying and your encouragement!!
Our first test was from Ch 1 to 4. We will start Ch 5 on Monday. Yes, I'm very interested in your notes to get a feel of how I need to go about learning this. My email address is [email protected].
Many many thanks!!! You just made my day by picking me up from the dump.

I just emailed you some stuff. Please let me know if you received because the file was on the larger side.
I have also tried to attach here, just in case.
hey everyone... it's been a while but tomorrow is my first lab practical! it's all on 206 bones, all the indentations/processes, bone tissue and the microscope! the bad part is we don't even get a word bank for the bones and if we spell them wrong it's automatically wrong!!! :/ i'm sooo nervous!!!! :barf01: the good thing is i feel pretty confident about the material, so hopefully i won't get there and then go blank! pray for me and wish me luck- i'm definately going to need it! hope everyone is doing well!!!

I am also using the Marieb book if you would like to keep in touch....
I am currently in Human Anatomy. The schools I am applying to generally want Anatomy & Physi seperate.I am finding it so hard to study for Anatomy and get through all the material! I try to cover each chapter before lecture or I am lost. It takes so long for me to get through one chapter-- I literally can't in one day. I am beginning to think I'm not smart enough.
Does anyone have any good study tips on how to stay on top of the overwhelming amount of material?
I felt the same way about perhaps not being "smart enough" to take A&P before I even signed up for the class. In fact, I thought that about deciding to be a nurse in general. I have never been "smart" so to choose a profession that requires you to know so much seemed like a challenge I wanted to take just to prove myself wrong. I study my butt off for A&P. I spend at least 3 hours a day (many days MANY more hours) studying just so I can understand the material. Do not overwhelm yourself. If you study everyday you will get it. Don't take a break after you have an exam or you will fall behind. Study your notes everyday. Even if you dont understand it all or can't memorize it all, YOU WILL. The more you read your notes, the more you'll get it. I surprise myself so much with all I know. That's why I am enjoying the class so much. I actually FEEL SMART! But it's because I study and take extra time to UNDERSTAND, not just memorize. If you can't learn something one day, try again the next. Eventually you'll get it. Don't stress. That makes everything even more difficult. I set a goal each study session...."Today I will study #4 notes (from 4th class)." And that's all I'll do. Hang in there. The harder you work, the more rewarded you will feel. Trust me. This is coming from someone who has felt the same exact way as you.

I used Marieb also (LOVED that book!)
My advice would be to skim the chapter before lecture, then take notes during lecture. Even if the teacher provides Power Points or notes, take your OWN notes. After you get home, type up (or re-write if you prefer) your notes IN YOUR OWN WORDS. This is very important as it solidifies key concepts in a language you can understand. If you don't understand something, look it up in Marieb. If you still don't understand it, Google it.
I always typed up my notes, and used the online version of the book so that I could copy and past any pictures or diagrams into my notes. It worked like a charm!
You can also try reading your notes aloud into a digital recorder and then playing it back while you're driving and whatnot. Maybe it's just that you haven't figured out what kind of studying works best? For some it's hearing things, for others its writing it down and for others it's pictures. For me, it's a bit of each so I try to incorporate all three.
What chapter are you on? I can send you a sample of my notes so you can see what I'm talking about...let me know if you are interested.
GOOD LUCK! You can do it :-)
