Several had mentioned starting a study thread early so we could get prepared for our fall A&P class, so here goes. I have gathered several websites from both here and on my own, so wanted to post them early on so that we wouldn't have to search for them. Please feel free to add to them and also any advice or study tactics that seem to work for you.
Thankyou to Eveyone here at AllNurses who have provided so much information in one spot.

Ok, that's it for tonight....I have several others but hopefully this will keep everyone busy for a day or 2 :chuckle:yeah:I'm sure we all have diferent study habits and will need to find our own way there but I am hoping we can work together as a study team.
Maybe each day or two, someone could provide a study tip or an mneumonics for memorization for tissues or nerves, anything that is helping you learn. Or if you come accross somethin that you can't use, maybe someone else can.
OFF to Bed for me
We just hit the halfway point of our first "semester" in A&P fasttrack. I can't believe it has been only three weeks, it feels like it has been months since we started. We just started chapter 11!
My class is insanely bright. We had our second lecture exam on wednesday (we started this section about a week and a half ago). It covered bone and muscle physiology. I got a 94%, the class average was 90%. According to our prof 64% got an A, 28% got a B, 4% got a C, and 4% got a D. There are only 28 people in the class, which means only 2 people scored lower than a B.
Went to open lab yesterday and there was this great teacher there who went over the integumentary slides with me. Here are a few pointer she said.
The sebacous gland always looks like testicles attached to hair. I didn't miss it once after that, The eccrine gland look like small bubbles which is unlike any other stucture we have reviewed. The arrector pilli is always slanted.
Nothing earth shattering but they really helped me identify structures in the lab.
She also said the you can remember the papillary region because it looks pimply. I can confirm that cause I had to leave and didn't get into the slide.
Hope all is well.
hey everyone, it's been a while since i've been on here! been real busy, anyway my 2nd lecture test is tomorrow! i'm pretty nervous, i haven't been as motivated to study like i was for the 1st test! i'm so burnt out with all this information and memorization i could just scream! but so far i have an a so i'm pretty happy about that! wish me luck for my test tomorrow, i'm definately going to need it!
hope everyone else is doing well! :)
Well right now we are on the nervous system, particularly the CNS and it is driving me nuts! I am not a very visual learner, so expected this to be hard. If anyone has any tips regarding learning the brain, I would really appreciate it.
Otherwise things going well, 100% in A&PI, 96% in sociology, 104% in psychology and 87 in microbiology. Micro suffered because I had the test when I was ill (blew off the course after and went home to hug the toilet) - when we were reviewing the anwers I could not believe some things I had put and not realized were wrong!! Oh well!
I'm quite confused, maybe somebody knows:
On the sphenoid bone there's the sella turcica and the hypophyseal fossa. Which one is which?
In the answer sheet for the mock practical our instructor wrote:
"hypophyseal fossa/sell turcica"
Was she just being nice because it could be either one she was indicating to, are they the same thing, or what?
What I got online is maybe the sella turcica is the entire "saddle" like depression and the hypohyseal fossa is the center middle of the sella turcica?
Or what?
in my 3rd week already and we are having a test on chapters 10-14 on monday covering the nervous system, peripheral system, autonomic, sensory, and endocrine. yikes!
surprisingly, i haven't been in school for two years and i'm at the top of my class i guess all these long hours of studying (at least 3 hours a day) are paying off. i am super excited, because my son is my main motivator behind all of this.
hope everyone else is keeping up & doing well!
My first test is tomorrow. Lecture exam and lab exam. As much as I have studied I feel unprepared. Its not that I don't get the concepts, its just so much. I even went to open lab on monday and I still don't feel great about my chances in the morning. But its late I have to get up at 6 am to get there on time, so I am going to bed.
wish me luck.

Hi everyone,
Sorry not to post much, I have found this thread useful, just still adjusting to the time management with the family and college!
Had my first lab and lecture tests on Monday - got 29/30 in the lab test and 100% in the lecture test!!!!! We were doing tissues and integuments. Was thrilled and glad the brain is back into studying mode after a decade!
Lecturer seemed happy with the class, 78% average, 7 A's and 2 100%. He laid into the 3 F's though - felt bad for them!
Now we are moving on to 6 weeks of the nervous system - ekkkkk!
My study tips are:
1. Make lecture notes as you go along.
2. Make separate notes from the recommended text.
3. Collate together the two sets of notes on a third set.
4. Make flashcards from the collated notes.
5. Find someone (in my case my poor boyf) to test you on the flashcards - mix them up, go through them again (so you don't just learn by a...b...c...). I find if I go through flashcards on my own I will peek!!
Hope that helps, definitely active studying as opposed to passive reading is a must in my mind!
