Anatomy & Physiology Fall 2008

Published

Several had mentioned starting a study thread early so we could get prepared for our fall A&P class, so here goes. I have gathered several websites from both here and on my own, so wanted to post them early on so that we wouldn't have to search for them. Please feel free to add to them and also any advice or study tactics that seem to work for you.

Thankyou to Eveyone here at AllNurses who have provided so much information in one spot.

Body Cavities

Ok, that's it for tonight....I have several others but hopefully this will keep everyone busy for a day or 2 :chuckle:yeah:I'm sure we all have diferent study habits and will need to find our own way there but I am hoping we can work together as a study team.

Maybe each day or two, someone could provide a study tip or an mneumonics for memorization for tissues or nerves, anything that is helping you learn. Or if you come accross somethin that you can't use, maybe someone else can.

 OFF to Bed for me

I was just wondering if everyone was being tested on 5 chapters at a time? I don't feel like anything is sticking because of the amount of info I am trying to memorize!

My first was three, and then my next exam was two and the lab praticum was three. I feel for you if you have to do five!

We did 4 chapters for our first. Our next will be on 4 of them. Then our midterm will be on the first 9 chapters. I believe it will hit the fan then. More than half of our class failed the first test, I got a 95%. I studied my hind end off and it was well worth it.

Also we are only doing 2 lab tests for the whole semester and no quizes. Just gonna keep working hard to keep up.

Close to it...4 chapters. I know what you mean about feeling like nothing is sticking. I fel the same way.

We just had our first exam of semester last night and it was on five chapters. I didn't feel like anything stuck either (4 kids, working 32 hrs wk and micro class too). But he gave us our grades last night and I got a 93, so it must have. Good luck, you can do it!

We've had 3 quizzes so far...I got a C and a B so far. The other quiz will get given back to us on Monday. Our first exam is this coming Wednesday. I'm not feeling real confident about it. I have started going to an open A&P lab that is run by our tutoring department in order to get some extra review before the test. That, and I plan on doing a LOT of studying this weekend!!

Got my results from my first exams. Lab exam 78 . Lecture exam 86. Not what I was hoping for but those slides really get me. Lab exams are worth 35% and lecture exams are 60% so I think my average is a 82. I hope I can pull that up to an A. The skeletal system is rough though, all those bone markings!!!! Wish me luck.

The chemstry stuff is what gets me...covalent bonds and having to know the chemical symbols of the elements and stuff like that. It is all so confusing, how one bond works one way and another bond works another way. Grrrrrrrrrr!! I would love to have to be dealing with the bones instead!!

See, our prof went over all the bonds and chemical properties but barely any of it was on the test. I think the only question we had to answer about it was "Which isn't a chemical bond" or something along those lines, and it was an oxygen bond.

We are doing the skeletal system right now and I am getting nervous about knowing all the bones in the body! Anyone have any suggestions as to how to study for it and a good way to memorize them? I was off work for a week because my son had surgery and even then I didn't get a chance to study because I was tending to him :(

I know...the way your prof did it makes more sense to me. After all, there is enough to cover in any study of the structures of the human body, and my concern is that we'll get rushed through things without really learning them.

Our professor didn't go over ANY of the chemistry part in class, but we were responsible for knowing that information and were tested on it on our first test! I know nothing about chemistry, so that was kind of nerve-wracking . Luckily, we touched on it a little in my microbiology class at the same time, so I felt like I learned a little, and there wasn't ALOT on the test about it.

Have you tried any of the online interactive A&P sites? They might be helpful. When I get tired of looking at a book, I get online and try to do something a little different. It helps me, anyway. Here's a link my lab instructor gave us:

http://www.gwc.maricopa.edu/class/bio201/index.html

Sometimes the pages don't come up, so you may have to look around on the site to get to the interactive tutorials. They have little quizzes over each section, too.

Sorry about your son. I hope that he is doing well now. Good luck getting back into the swing of things :)!

Thanks so much! I have slacked so much since the last test and I think its going to bite me in the butt. Luckily my lab teacher works way ahead so we know ahead of time what will be on the test. I need to buckle down and work all night tonight on studying!

He's doing well, thanks for the well wishes :) He had his tonsils and adenoids out for sleep apnea and now he is back to being the 2 year hellion I know and love!

I hope you don't mind, but I also bookmarked that site. Maybe it'll benefit e more than going over the same infomation over and over is. Thank you for sharng the link.
