Anatomy & Physiology Fall 2008

Published

Several had mentioned starting a study thread early so we could get prepared for our fall A&P class, so here goes. I have gathered several websites from both here and on my own, so wanted to post them early on so that we wouldn't have to search for them. Please feel free to add to them and also any advice or study tactics that seem to work for you.

Thankyou to Eveyone here at AllNurses who have provided so much information in one spot.

Body Cavities

Ok, that's it for tonight....I have several others but hopefully this will keep everyone busy for a day or 2 :chuckle:yeah:I'm sure we all have diferent study habits and will need to find our own way there but I am hoping we can work together as a study team.

Maybe each day or two, someone could provide a study tip or an mneumonics for memorization for tissues or nerves, anything that is helping you learn. Or if you come accross somethin that you can't use, maybe someone else can.

 OFF to Bed for me

See, our prof went over all the bonds and chemical properties but barely any of it was on the test. I think the only question we had to answer about it was "Which isn't a chemical bond" or something along those lines, and it was an oxygen bond.

We are doing the skeletal system right now and I am getting nervous about knowing all the bones in the body! Anyone have any suggestions as to how to study for it and a good way to memorize them? I was off work for a week because my son had surgery and even then I didn't get a chance to study because I was tending to him :(

I wish I knew an easy way to memorize them, but other than study, repeat, study, repeat I don't know of any! Anyway, I think I did really well on the lecture part, our grades have not been posted as of yet. I got an A on the lab, I only know this because he went over it after the exam and I only missed 2, yeah! BTW, I hope your son is doing well... :D

Go to post 305, there is a great help list there.

Hey you guys!! Wow, this thread is MASSIVE! I definitely know why :) I didn't have time to look through all of the posts, sorry I apologize if someone has already discussed this, buuttttttt...

My A&P just started bones, and we are barely through the skull and I'm about to freak and have already lost hope :( !!!!!!!

Anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to actually memorize this stuff? I mean seriously, all the foramens and fissures and condyles have me freaked out. Any help would be appreciated! Anyone in the same boat?

great mnemonic for the foot bones:

Tiger (talus)

Cubs (calcaneus)

Need (navicular)

M (middle cuneiform)

I (intermediate cuneiform)

L (lateral cuneiform)

C (cuboid)

Ohhh, good one!! Thanks...:heartbeat

We've only had one lecture test and one lab test, and I made A's on both of them! Yay! Next lab test is muscles, tissues, and microscope, but it's not until 10/30. Not sure when the next lecture test is though. I'm a little concerned because we seem to be going really slow and we still have a lot to cover in the next two months and it'll probably be crammed in at the end of the semester.

I have the same concern, our course is supposed to be over on December 4th and we still have not taken the 2nd Lecture test. Lab is rolling right along smoothly though. We have quizes weekly.

Well it seems to be so far so good for me! Our instructor just gave us "progress reports" last week and so far I have a 97.7......highest grade in the class. I got a 96 on the first lecture exam. Over HALF the class failed. We're doing bones right now though, its got me a bit freaked out. SOOOOOO much to memorize

Well I am done with the bones and I found the foramen in the skull to be the hardest. My lab instructor did teach us a cool way to remember the wrist bones though. Some Lovers Try Positions That They Can't Handle.

Scaphoid, Lunate, Triquetrum, Pisiform, Trapezium, Trapazoid, Capitulate, Hamate.

The sequence is bytop row then bottom row. Try it.

Well, I'm going to plug through but my brain just isn't keeping all this stuff in. I took my second test and I got another 76. At least I'm consistent. Prof told our class it only gets harder. Last test had no A's, 4 B's, 5 C's, 11D's and 1 F....So, over all in the class I'm ranked about 6 or 7th...I can't get a C or I'll have to change to audit and retake. I currently have a 80 because I have an A on the quiz's........

I've started on Bones. Any great ideas or websites out there. Or study ideas or aids I might want to try......

What helped me with the bones was to get a diagram with fill in the blanks you should probably have one in your workbook or lab book. Make about 14 photo copies for the week. Then fill in all the answers to have your answer key. Then every morning fill in as many blanks as possible (from memory) then fill in the rest with the answer key. Then in the evening do it again and you will be amazed by the 3rd day how many bones you have remembered. It takes a little preparation time but it works. I got a 107 out of 120 on the bones in my practical.

My A&P first lecture exam is this Sat (10/18) and I have a little nervous. However, I have a study buddy & with her I've been understanding the topics better. Wish me luck!

PS -to the poster that poster that tip re bones, thanks! I will use it!

Please help me decide....

Ok...I'm seriously thinking of dropping A&P1 and retake next semester. It's a lot for me to keep up w/o having any bio background. We're half way through the class and I have a "C". I'll be lucky to pull a B at best and final is cumulative. It sure takes a different study approach. Twenty hrs of study time per wk isn't enough. More importantly, I don't want to go into NUR with knowing only 1/2 of the A&P stuff. So far, my GPA is 4.0 for my pre-reqs and kind of want to keep it that way. What are your thoughts?

Greatly appreciate your feedback.

I am in the same boat as you. I am thinking about dropping as well and waiting or even going into a direction all together.

Good Luck.
