Los Angeles Southwest College
Hey Trailmixers, If you are going into bootcamp this summer we will meet soon then. As of Fall I will be going into 3rd semester at LASC. I can say it is truly an experience. I can not compare it to other schools because I have not been to any other school, but sometimes there is frustration with scheduling of classes or clinical. Since I have started it has gotten better. Our class really speaks up and they seem to listen so hopefully by the time you start all the kinks have been worked out. Administration really tries hard to get you ready for NCLEX, we have mandatory ATI tests every 8 weeks and hey also have been paying a portion for the students to go to Kaplan for Test prep. My suggestion to you while your in the program is to read ahead, study hard and form a study group that is diverse so that you all will bring ideas to the table. It is all about CRITICAL THINKING. It can be fun too though, Good Luck!

Socalpeach, sorry for the late response. After the orientation we were whisked into bootcamp so, I got super busy. So far I am enjoying the experience in bootcamp we learned vital signs, physical assessment and did all of our requirements for the program i.e. physical, drug testing, insurance and uniform and book ordering. The orientation seemed a little disorganized but for a good reason, the director of the program was teaching it for the 1st time, overall it was fun and informative. I think she will be better next go round. We are doing our 1st semester clinicals at Kaiser I am sooo excited. We start on the 30th, and besides being nervous I am just anxious. The only other schools I know of are Cerritos, Golden West (OC) LA County Nursing Pgm. Good Luck to you and I promise to re-cap throughout the program.

Socalpeach, I applied this spring for fall. The deadline was March for most schools. I am not sure what your area is but if you are in the Los Angeles area, don't forget about Harbor, LACC, Trade Tech, Santa Monica (if you don't mind a little travel,) and Rio Hondo. There is also of course Southwest. Today was my 1st day of orientation, I don't think its gonna be so bad. I am truly excited. Good Luck to you!

I just got accepted to the nursing program at Southwest for fall 2010. I have to have faith in this program because I applied to 6 schools and 5 sent me letters saying I was NOT accepted. So despite whatever reputation this school has I am going to make the best of it. I am actually excited I got in

Trogina, I just got my official denial email from LAHC. I have applied to LASW and that is the last school that I have not heard from for fall. If I don't get in there, I am thinking about private BSN school or LVN school. I am just so disappointed. Well that is the way the cookie crumbles good luck to you in your entry to nursing school!~

I didn't get an email from LAHC either. I guess that is one more school that I didn't get into. My record is 0 out of 6 so far. Arrgh! So annoying! Well good job to all that did get an invite.

For LA Harbor, this is on their website. Strongly Recommended Courses Nursing 301 A, B, C Nursing 302 (Math of Drugs and Solutions) Nursing 364 (Pharmacology) Biology 33 (Medical Terminology) I am not sure if it makes a difference to who gets selected, but they are not having summer classes so if you are selected, you have alot of work to do besides the core classes.

Anyone have any experiences with Downey Adult School in OC ?
Is this school expensive? Does this school offer a payment plan or do they have financial aid? Thanks!

Fall 2010 Applicants.. How's it going?
I am having the same anxiety. I have applied to Southwest, LACC, LA County, LA Harbor and Rio Hondo. My first choice is LA Harbor, with LA County being the runner up. I don't think I did so well on the entrance test to the County though due to my math skills. Anyway I have been chippin' away at this pre-reqs for going on 6 years so if it doesn't pan out for fall 2010. I am going to do the LVN route. I pray that I get in though. If not there is always the LVN RN bridge. Good Luck to all!

I turned in my application and all of my transcripts about two weeks ago. I am also applying to other schools in the area. The local schools are getting fancy about certain classes that must be completed before entry into the program (i.e. Nutrition, Nursing 101, etc.). Does anyone know if Intermediate algebra is a Pre-requisite now, or is it just a graduate requirement? Good Luck to you all.

I am applying for the program at southwest, along with other schools. To be honest I am very concerned with going to a school where i might not be hirable, but at this point in my long academic career, I am just anxious to get in. Anyone with info about this program and if people actually get a job from graduating from here, your info will be helpful.

Trinity Vocational College
I start Clinicals this saturday:yeah:I am so excited and nervous at the same time. It is one thing to do vitals on your classmates but it is another thing to do them on actual residents, who may be fragile and have illnesses. Well so far so Good. I still like the school I am learning alot and I like how the instructor makes us feel comfortable about what we are about to do. She keeps reinforcing that CNA's are important to the nursing field . I will keep you posted as things progress we are done with clinicals in October, so until next time... Take care!

Well I am in my 4th week of class and i like the instruction. They teach you what you need to know for the state exam. I have not started clinicals yet but I can keep you informed when I get there. As for the part time LVN course I really don't know much about it. I know that it is a very good price though. Well I will give you my overall thoughts about the school when I am done with the program. Until then take care.
