  1. I am a Dec 2011 grad as well, and I previously lived in Ohio, have since moved to SC for my first RN job. I sent out 250 resumes, all over the southeast, and last month *finally* landed a job in SC. If anyone would be willing to relocate and transfer their license to SC, I would recommend applying to the Grand Strand Medical Center, Waccamaw and Conway hospitals, all are located in the Myrtle Beach area. They are hiring!!! Good luck to everyone! Keep your chins up:)
  2. Patti-RN, not all new grads live at home with their Mom and Dad. I have two teens that have gone without for a long time now while Mom persued her dream of becoming a nurse. I have bills to pay, and as great as volunteering may look on a resume, I need a paycheck. I don't mean to sound cold, because I do in volunteer (at an animal shelter) but at this point, a paycheck from even a LTC facility would be really helpful. Personally, I think the fact that someone "chose" nursing as a second career (me), gave up a 50K job to go back to school, and lost an 18 year old child while in school and continued on, shows commitment as well as determination.
  3. First, Congrats on the new job:) But, I am pretty sure once you are a licensed RN, you cannot "volunteer" as a Nursing Assistant. Something to do with laws, etc. Not that I don't believe in volunteering (I do at our local shelter), but I need a paycheck. Also, the fact that these "volunteer opportunities" is what it has come to for RN's to try and land a job, well, I think it stinks. Honestly, I busted my butt through school, then boards, I want an RN job. I already volunteered at my clinicals/practicum.
  4. I was just wondering why this forum doesn't have any activity? It seems like all the other states have people posting all the time, sharing information/job leads, etc. And SC one is so inactive. Does anyone have any insight as to why?
  5. I have been applying all over NC since February (graduated Dec 2011) and have had absolutely no luck so far. I am really becoming frustrated with the whole thing, but trying to remain positive. I guess now I get to compete for jobs with May graduates. Yippee.
  6. Please, tell me where and I will apply right now!!!
  7. I know this is an old link, but I have the same type of question. Last week I went for an interview (new grad), and they asked me to come back the next morning for a peer interview. After, they sent me to HR to sign off on a background check. Tomorrow will be a week and I haven't heard anything. The manager said she'll be making a hiring decision in 2 weeks, but oh my goodness, the waiting is killing me! Is being sent for the background still a good sign in this economy, or do a lot of hospitals do this before formally offering you a postion? Also, the manager gave me their benefits/relocation package information, which I thought was hopeful. Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated:) Thanks!
  8. Hello All, I have an interview coming up very soon with the Grand Strand Medical Center, and was wondering if anyone could give any advice on what to expect at the interview (format), time between interviewing/job offer, hospital culture, etc. I am really excited for this opportunity, but extremely nervous because this is my first interview as an RN (new grad). Also, I didn't go into nursing for the money, and I realize SC isn't known for high wages, but does anyone have a clue as to the starting pay for new grad RN's at this facility? Thanks for any advice/info:)
  9. I have applied for 130 RN positions as a new grad looking for a position. There is NO way I can tailor the cover letter to every single hospital's posting. And, some hospital's websites only allow you to upload a different resume/cover letter a maximum of 5 times. Here's the thing, I love taking care of my patient's, I am compassionate and qualified, I am licensed, dependable and drug free, but now I have to read HR's minds on cover letter mumbo jumbo. You can't win.
  10. Warning* This is a vent. Not being able to find ANY RN job just makes you feel like crap. I am also tired of hearing about ALL of those nursing jobs clueless people talk about. I have literally applied to 120 positions, in every state, for either experience "preferred" or no experience necessary. I have applied to *every* new grad residency I have come across. I have heard nothing. I got to the point where I would re-read my cover letter/resume thinking I had a misspelling or put a curse word (j/k) in there that would prevent HR from contacting me! I am tired, depressed and feeling relatively worthless. Oh, and any day now my loans should roll in. Good times. If I was getting calls/interviews I would think maybe it's something I'm doing/saying, etc., but, I don't even get called to screw anything up!!! Negative rant over* Puts smiley face back on.
  11. Congratulations!!! So happy for you:)
  12. What you wrote makes me sad, even though you were being honest. I am not a believer in any gods, but I would be happy to hold someone's hand, of ANY faith, while they prayed. I would also be quite happy to call a chaplain if preferred. I have found christianity/christians to be very cliquish.
  13. Yep, been there, done that. Thanks.
  14. I feel like we are in the same boat! I have applied to literally 120 positions in the past 6 weeks, and NOT ONE PHONE CALL. I live in Ohio, but am licensed (RN) in NC (a compact state) because I want to relocate to the southeast, and felt getting a license in a compact state would actually help me. I feel like after all of the years I have put into school, then studying for the NCLEX and then not be able to find a position, well, it really frustrates me! Hoping something turns up for all of us new grads:)
