Dec 2011 Graduates
I am a Dec 2011 grad as well, and I previously lived in Ohio, have since moved to SC for my first RN job. I sent out 250 resumes, all over the southeast, and last month *finally* landed a job in SC. If anyone would be willing to relocate and transfer their license to SC, I would recommend applying to the Grand Strand Medical Center, Waccamaw and Conway hospitals, all are located in the Myrtle Beach area. They are hiring!!! Good luck to everyone! Keep your chins up:)

New Grads...Don't give UP!!!!
Patti-RN, not all new grads live at home with their Mom and Dad. I have two teens that have gone without for a long time now while Mom persued her dream of becoming a nurse. I have bills to pay, and as great as volunteering may look on a resume, I need a paycheck. I don't mean to sound cold, because I do in volunteer (at an animal shelter) but at this point, a paycheck from even a LTC facility would be really helpful. Personally, I think the fact that someone "chose" nursing as a second career (me), gave up a 50K job to go back to school, and lost an 18 year old child while in school and continued on, shows commitment as well as determination.

New Grads...Don't give UP!!!!
First, Congrats on the new job:) But, I am pretty sure once you are a licensed RN, you cannot "volunteer" as a Nursing Assistant. Something to do with laws, etc. Not that I don't believe in volunteering (I do at our local shelter), but I need a paycheck. Also, the fact that these "volunteer opportunities" is what it has come to for RN's to try and land a job, well, I think it stinks. Honestly, I busted my butt through school, then boards, I want an RN job. I already volunteered at my clinicals/practicum.

New Grad ICU programs in NC
I have been applying all over NC since February (graduated Dec 2011) and have had absolutely no luck so far. I am really becoming frustrated with the whole thing, but trying to remain positive. I guess now I get to compete for jobs with May graduates. Yippee.

I had my interview and now I'm worried
I know this is an old link, but I have the same type of question. Last week I went for an interview (new grad), and they asked me to come back the next morning for a peer interview. After, they sent me to HR to sign off on a background check. Tomorrow will be a week and I haven't heard anything. The manager said she'll be making a hiring decision in 2 weeks, but oh my goodness, the waiting is killing me! Is being sent for the background still a good sign in this economy, or do a lot of hospitals do this before formally offering you a postion? Also, the manager gave me their benefits/relocation package information, which I thought was hopeful. Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated:) Thanks!

Grand Strand Regional Medical Center...
Hello All, I have an interview coming up very soon with the Grand Strand Medical Center, and was wondering if anyone could give any advice on what to expect at the interview (format), time between interviewing/job offer, hospital culture, etc. I am really excited for this opportunity, but extremely nervous because this is my first interview as an RN (new grad). Also, I didn't go into nursing for the money, and I realize SC isn't known for high wages, but does anyone have a clue as to the starting pay for new grad RN's at this facility? Thanks for any advice/info:)

cover letter please help
I have applied for 130 RN positions as a new grad looking for a position. There is NO way I can tailor the cover letter to every single hospital's posting. And, some hospital's websites only allow you to upload a different resume/cover letter a maximum of 5 times. Here's the thing, I love taking care of my patient's, I am compassionate and qualified, I am licensed, dependable and drug free, but now I have to read HR's minds on cover letter mumbo jumbo. You can't win.

Good Luck today:)

no hope for nurses without experience??
Warning* This is a vent. Not being able to find ANY RN job just makes you feel like crap. I am also tired of hearing about ALL of those nursing jobs clueless people talk about. I have literally applied to 120 positions, in every state, for either experience "preferred" or no experience necessary. I have applied to *every* new grad residency I have come across. I have heard nothing. I got to the point where I would re-read my cover letter/resume thinking I had a misspelling or put a curse word (j/k) in there that would prevent HR from contacting me! I am tired, depressed and feeling relatively worthless. Oh, and any day now my loans should roll in. Good times. If I was getting calls/interviews I would think maybe it's something I'm doing/saying, etc., but, I don't even get called to screw anything up!!! Negative rant over* Puts smiley face back on.

The Nurse's Role in Providing Spiritual Care - Is It OK to Pray?
What you wrote makes me sad, even though you were being honest. I am not a believer in any gods, but I would be happy to hold someone's hand, of ANY faith, while they prayed. I would also be quite happy to call a chaplain if preferred. I have found christianity/christians to be very cliquish.

no hope for nurses without experience??
Yep, been there, done that. Thanks.

no hope for nurses without experience??
I feel like we are in the same boat! I have applied to literally 120 positions in the past 6 weeks, and NOT ONE PHONE CALL. I live in Ohio, but am licensed (RN) in NC (a compact state) because I want to relocate to the southeast, and felt getting a license in a compact state would actually help me. I feel like after all of the years I have put into school, then studying for the NCLEX and then not be able to find a position, well, it really frustrates me! Hoping something turns up for all of us new grads:)

Are there any places around Charleston hiring new grad RNs?
I recently graduated (Dec'11) and passed my boards Feb 20th. I am licensed (RN) in NC because I figured it would be easy to use in compact states, or switch over anyway. I have been sending resumes out in NC and SC, and having no luck so far. I have applied to MUSC, where I would absolutely love to work, but my application status has said referred to hiring manager for over a week now. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad sign? Do any new grad RN's have any experience with MUSC that didn't graduate in SC? I don't have a number/email to follow up with the HR dept at MUSC, and even if I did, I certainly don't want to be too pushy and scare them off. Does anyone have any advice on how to land a new grad RN job in Charleston with zero networking capabilities? I would be grateful for any advice.

Took the NCLEX today...
Okay, here's a little secret: The NCLEX gives you partial credit for SATA's. They won't admit it. But, I can promise you, I did NOT get all 18 SATA's perfect, but I passed at 75 questions. A "little bird" told me this secret. I knew this going in so I didn't stress the SATA questions.

MD. Anderson Residency Program (Houston, TX)-Spring 2012
I also received a call this morning from HR, but of course I was in the shower! I returned her call and got her VM, so I left a message. In the meantime, I was sent an email from her to complete an assessment, which I have just completed. Hoping to receive a call back! Would anyone who has recently interviewed give any feedback on the phone interview/actual interview as in what I should expect? Thanks:)

Took the NCLEX today...
I took the NCLEX(RN) today and I have got to tell you, it wasn't bad. I mean, really. I think everyone should definitely study and prepare, but I walked out of there feeling totally relieved. After hearing everyone's stories about what tools they used to study, and how many questions they did everyday and this book has questions more like the NCLEX- it had me pulling my hair out! Okay, here's the truth. It's basic. I had 18 SATA, 3-4 put in order, around 15 Priority, 1 whom would room with whom and 3 "weird" medication field questions. I was there for 55 minutes and my computer shut off at 75 (that felt good)! Go in there prepared, but don't freak yourself out! Did you know the first time passing rate is 86%? (learned that while reading the Pearson flyer in the waiting room) YOU GOT THIS:) PS I did the Vue trick and got the good message!

NCBON
Thank you! I do plan to try the Pearson Vue "trick", so far it's helped a couple of my friends to not lose their minds until it was officially posted:) I am glad your results were posted in less than a week, it gives me hope! Thanks again.

NCBON
Hey All, I am taking the NCLEX (RN) tomorrow at 2pm (2/20/2012), and was wondering if anyone could tell me how long they had to wait until their license was posted by the NCBON. I know the website says that they can take up to 30 days, but I am not sure my heart can take the wait:) Has anyone's been posted in a more reasonable time frame? Thank you.

Anywhere in the Country hiring New Grad RNs with Associates Degree?
As a new grad (Dec 2011). I assure you that the new grad positions are tight all over NC. I have been applying to all the new grad positions available in NC since Dec, and haven't heard a peep. I am scheduled for the NCLEX Feb 20, so I am wondering if the fact I am not licensed yet may be a hinderance? Good luck to the OP:)

Took my NCLEX-RN this morning!!!!!
I am also applying for NC, and from what I understand it can take 30 days. I hope I misunderstood it though. Try the trick:)
