There was a mention of the lethal injection discussion in AJN. It was kind of an embarrassment; they discussed a posting where a few individuals expressed a great desire to take part in lethal injections. Too bad.
ADMIN NOTE: Here is the link to the AJN article for those of you interested in reading it:http://cms.nursingcenter.com/dev/library/JournalArticle.asp?Article_ID=573335 Thanks - Brian
I'm always getting in trouble for putting my foot in my mouth, but come on! Rather than talk about nurses who actually participate in this and leave it at that, this woman complains that people made some off color satirical comments on an internet bb? Nice to know some people have nothing better to do than troll around looking for posts they can twist to try to prove their arguments... I'd tell her to get a life and she can quote me on that if she likes, signed,

Yeah that. Excellent post Fergus.
I haven't said anything in any of my posts that I wouldn't say anywhere else - to an AJN interviewer, for that matter. But I do think that for AJN to appropriate a discussion off of an informal Internet forum is bad journalism at best and outright fraud at worst., especially since it's obvious that the journal edited the thread content to suit itself. I don't currently subscribe to AJN, but you can bet I'll never do so again, either.
Often when i do google search on topics looking for clinical articles, allnurses posts are at top of search feature. Members need to be mindful of that when posting as what's in black 'n white believed to be a "true statement".
This is SO true. Allnurses shows up at the top when I search for nursing info just as frequently as ebay does when I go shopping for something using a search. Ebay's audience is billions of viewers . Allnurses, I'm sure, is right up there as well.
I used to visit this board a few years ago. I have to say that at that time I used to cringe when I read some of the stuff that appeared in posts here. It's different now with a tweaked TOS, the moderators, and the premier memberships available only by paying. I personally think that this website is much more respectful and representative of the profession of nursing.
Kudos to Allnurses for making this an excellent resourse! I don't think there is anything else like it out there. I lurked here for a long long time before actually becoming a member of the community. We need to remember that we represent nurses everywhere. To those who are not "insiders" it may appear that what we post is the truth.
I frequent another message board much like this one with a huge world-wide audience. I have become friends with a local journalist who actually goes to those boards each morning to gauge the temperature, if you will, of the locals on a specific issue before he writes his story for the day. Once I found this out (he contacted me directly), I started to really think about what I post on that message board. It's incredible that something I might say could influence a story that reaches millions. That's exactly what Allnurses is like too. I'm not surprised by the AJN article at all (but I have to admit that I haven't read it yet).

:yeahthat: (Even tho I'm the one who closed the thread in question lol.)

Right on fergus!
She can even add my quote - PLEASE do not believe everything you read on the internet!
I can understand having to explain that to a lay person, but a nursing professional should really know better. She should realize that a poster on an internet bulletin board may or may not even be a nurse. I wonder if she trolls around on bb's for medical advice to give to her patients as well?
AJN - please show better judgement in the future. This was a sad representation of what is supposed to be a professional, peer-reviewed journal. The fact that AJN is the official publication of the ANA makes this err in journalistic judgement even worse, IMO.

I clicked on the link.. they want 19.95 to view it! I can't believe they would charge to view an article... We should ban together to protest us as nurses to write the editor and cancel our subscriptions.
thanks brandy!
