Post your Fall 2013 grades!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hey everyone!

The semester is over & I am pleased to say .. I finally got that 4.0. All the ranting and raving I did about my history grade, and I actually came out with an A. The last grade I made before the final was a 70 and I had pretty much given up on getting an A in there. The professor gave us a chance to get extra credit. We had to write a 2 page paper, and it was worth up to 10 points. Since she told the class she wasn't going to grade it lightly, I pretty much gave up on that too, but I still completed the assignment and turned it in to be safe. Needed a 101 on the final to make an A, impossible. I honestly had stopped studying for the final. The night before the test I did absolutely nothing. Well, grades were posted. I made a 93 on the exam and got 8 out of 10 extra credit points which gave me exactly the 101 I needed! Yes.

So now, for grades:

AP1-A

AP1 Lab-A

Economics-A

World History-A

Lifespan Development-A

I'm so ecstatic. I literally haven't had straight A's since middle school (with the exception of the summer semester). This 4.0 gave my GPA a nice bump. I will be spending this winter break getting my nursing school application together so I can have it turned in before next semester starts.

How did you guys do? Post your grades! Did you do as well as you wanted to? If you didn't, what will you change so you will do better next semester?

Nope not weird. That's totally me. I'll have the same problem with micro then lol

Hahaha I hope you don't! A lot of people seem to think micro is easier. I guess I'm a "big" picture person lol I found micro interesting, but also a little dry. I'd much rather do a simulation of injecting a rat with substances than play with petri dishes.

I now this is probably dumb, but this is my opinion. I hate when people ask for grades of other students or posting them in the public, as sometimes it does discourage some people. I would never post if I got a 4.0 to a 1.5 it doesn't matter to me. I just find that it's disheartening to people who have tried and not succeeded at their 4.0 they tried to get this semester. I know it's probably annoying for me to say. I know some people are very pleased with their grades, while some feel like it's a little smudge in the face. Oh well, just my opinion.

Totally Agee. People posting want to shout out how well they did. So kudus. I pat your back. The internet says job well done. Pray in your closet.

Good day, Cg37387n:

You are not alone. I've been wondering whether to ask why people do this and why it matters for it to be done, but wasn't sure how to put it. We have enough pressure from our individual school and its environment than to give or receive pressure here.

Thank you for having the courage to speak up.

Everybody's entitled to their own opinion. I personally see no harm in it. If people don't want to post their grades they don't have to. This is a public forum .. people can post about whatever they want.

Now, you are right. It does discourage some folks. Like I stated in the actual post this is my first time getting a 4.0 for the semester. Took me almost 2 years. Even when I didn't get a 4.0 I still posted my grades when people asked .. cause I wanted to. When I saw how many people were getting 4.0s I was discouraged a bit, but it made me step my game up. Is it bad that people like sharing their grades after 16 weeks of hard work? I don't think so. Just my opinion.

Agreed.... It's not about being boastful it's about being proud and happy of your hard work. I don't see the issue in that at all. If someone doesn't like it there's a million other posts to view. The title clearly states what the post is about. It should be no surprise to anyone.

In the past I did not get very good grades. I have failed classes before. To me it's very encouraging to see that yes, it's possible to get an A in say A&P. I suppose it depends on your mindset. Plus if someone did come on here to post that they got a 1.5, I think they would be met with advice and support, not criticism.

While I do not mind sharing grades and see it as harmless. I do not share the thought that people would be supportive. I have watched threads before and there are always 2-3 people who tell some if you cannot hack the pre reqs nursing school is not for you. Not all people are like that, but just like in real life, negative Nancy's will appear.

For me, threads like these are motivation. I know there are a lot of hardworking students out there fighting to occupy the same seat I want in limited-access programs, so I can't slack off. In many ways, I feel like it keeps me from getting too cocky; I want to go to grad school someday, and I need to remind myself that there are enough 4.0 students around that I have to keep pushing myself to do bigger things. I'm a Ravenclaw, dangit!

I agree ^ I like to know what I am up against.

Hmm, that's strange; I've never heard of a system like that. Normally, an A is 90.0% or higher, unless the school uses +/- in which case it's usually something like 92% or higher with 90-91.9% being A- (the exact cutoff varies I think). That seems a bit unfair of your school to grade so differently than the norm.

Thank you for the reply...I had a pretty good feeling that a lot of the people with perfect A's were not getting 96 or 97 and above. At my school, it is generally 95-96 for the A and it depends on the teacher. Lately I have had a lot of teachers who want a 97. Not all of the classes have a point total of 100. A&P and Micro didn't. I don't remember the exact number, but I think A&P was around 500 points with an A being a max of 20-22 missed points.

It was rough, but I pulled through (after several near-panic attacks!). I have definitely noticed that my school grades very strictly, but it's not the only one. Sometimes it feels unfair, especially when I see friends who have earned higher letter grades but lower scores than me. But...who said life was fair? Lol. It is what it is!

at my school, the grading scale is crazy in my opinion. 80-84 is a c, 85-93 is a b and 94 + is an A. it makes for a very stressful semester, cause 2 bad tests and you have an uphill battle from there! anyways, this semester (my last pre-nursing!) i got:

chemistry: a

micro: b

patho: b

english: a

i feel good, i didn't think i could pass patho at all, i was really aiming for a C!
