2-4 year waiting list?!?

Published

I just got a letter in the mail informing me that that is how long the wait is now. I haven't gotten my number yet. What to do?? I have one pre-req left to go. Should I apply to the LPN program and hope tpo bridge in to the RN program later?? I do not want surgical tech, x ray tech or another field. I want ADN. So frustrating :o

Since the earliest I would get into the nursing program is next Fall 2005, I've decided to take a phlebotomy course through one of the technical schools. Then I can hopefully get myself an inpatient phlebotomist position in the hospital I want to work. I may then be able to get some tuition reimbursement. There are options.

And like MZachry stated...you've been accepted and it really is only a year away. So Congratulations!

I can understand your discouragement, but look at the bright side.....at least you have been accepted! :) :balloons:

Are there any other non-nursing classes you can take before Feb '06? If not, maybe you could even take a foreign language or sign language course. Possibly take a class to learn phlebotomy. Keep your self motivated, and good luck in your nursing program.

So, Achoo - enquiring minds want to know: what have you decided to do? Three years is a ridiculously long wait. :crying2:

I am #93 on another list. I'm going to wait. Hoping people have gotten in somewhere else, dropped, applied to more than one program ( like me) etc. In fall both my kids will be in school full time, so I'll work and put money away. I have my CMA so at least I can work in the field while I wait. I'm still very bummed though.

I'm so sorry! Hey, at least you have a plan Achoo!

I volunteer at a hospital, and my coordinator said that it will definitely move faster than 2.5 years, because people get sick of waiting and drop out. What a good attitude you have!

She told me to do the 3 week CNA course, but, I don't know if I want to do that. I think I would hate the poop and other bodily functions too much. I know nurses DO have to deal with this, believe me, but I don't want to burn myself out too fast, ya know???

I'll stick with office work while I'm in school. It's what I know--and I'm good at it. So it would be an "easy" job while I'm in school.

I am going to go get a job as a PCT just so I can get used to the poop etc. I am kind of weird about stuff like that, but I know that I can get over it, I want to be a nurse more than my queasiness. I had an extremely hard time in Anatomy with the cadavers, I almost passed out, but I got over that too and was handling organs by the end of the quarter. I have been told by many students ahead of me in the program that it is ideal to be a PCT because it helps with skills in clinicals.

i talked to a counselor last night about.....a bsn at a university. i have 5 pre-reqs that i need to complete, and then if i get all a's and b's (which i have so far--i am a good student) then i will most likely get in that fall. so, take classes for this upcoming year, work part time, apply in may of 2006 and start in fall of 2006. this is my plan.

might as well get the 4 year degree. yes, costs more, but i want to work part time anyway, and i have a wonderful supportive husband, mom and brothers. that means a lot to me. plus, hopefully, with the bsn, i will make more $$ starting out in jobs.:o

sadly, the univ. in s. calif. are even harder to get into. :o they don't even do the wait list thing, they've just shut it down because they're so backed up. and before that you had to have a 3.5 (? or 3.3..?) to even be able to apply. of course, that was not my gpa. :imbar even the private, pricey univ. have very vew openings, and again, you have to have a very high gpa, to be able to apply. :angryfire soooo.........wait i must!

I'll have to think about it and see how it goes. I mean, volunteering is great, and I get to see a lot of things, but if I'm gonna be in the hospital anyway, might as well get experience AND get paid, right?

I think for now, I won't get in to ANY school (BSN or ADN) for almost 2 years. Part time office work will be great for that time, and easy for me to get pre reqs (for the BSN only, I have them all for the ADN program I applied to) and some OTHER classes--like humanities, sociology, etc. out of the way.

THEN, once I AM in nursing school, I may just take that 3 week program OR just go and see if they will give me a job as a CNA. The ones I volunteer with never took a course--either they got trained on the job, or are nursing students, and that apparantly sufficed enough to work there. *shrugs* I'll have to see........I know a hospital is MUCH more flexible with student schedules than an office would be. All the office knows is that you would be leaving them soon, whereas a hospital might want you to come back and work for them as an RN. At least around here, that is the perception I get.

i can't believe it's that long of a wait! so, are you taking some good classes and getting a's so you can bring your gpa up to 3.5???

i thought ca had tons of places to go to school???

Holy Moly you guys! Move up here! Thats ridiculous to wait that long. Wish it was simple for you to move. Why is it such a long wait?

Don't know where u are in Canada, but it can be two to three years as well.

Some schools hold places open for Aborignal students. I know of someone who got in faster because they were Metis.

The marks situation are pretty similar. Very few places do a first apply first admit thing.

I was told over the phone that my nunber was 93, but my letter today said 79! :) Hey, that knocks off a year! They supposedly take 24 a year, but I thought I heard they added 8 more, so maybe ( crosses fingers) it will only be 2 years.

???????????????? Never heard of it being so hard to get in anywhere in Canada. I'm in Ontario and I'm part aboriginal but never revealed it on my application. No doubt thay have places for aboriginals but only if they have the grades. What first apply first admit thing? I first applied and was admitted that time. Is that what you mean? And MANY places do accept the first time you apply. I know because I applied to more than one place and got in everywhere.

If I was so low on a list...maybe re-taking an upgrade are in order. Or an angry phone call. Good luck.
